Honestly the food is decent but the prices are outrageous. 9 dollars for a salmon temaki in my opinion makes it hard to justify going here over other japanese restaurants especially for the size. The interior decoration is very nice and you can see the sushi chef working in the center and all the staff were great. Hokkaido Uni Toast Grade: B+ The best thing here. Super rich and flavorful with uni, toro, and truffle oil on a nicely toasted baguette. Uni was mildly fishy but that's practically unavoidable in the US. Very rich and probably wouldn't be able to eat more than 2 pieces Salmon Hand Roll Grade: D+ Overall tasted not bad but it's just so ridiculously expensive for such a small temaki (literally 3 small squares of salmon) Tsubugai Grade: C+ Usually don't see whelk (sea snail) in temaki so was more of a unique one that is more worth the price. Spicy Tuna Grade: D+ I can't really find justification for paying these prices for essentially scrap fish, cucumbers, and cilantro. Should be at least a few dollars cheaper than the whole cut pieces of fish Yuzu Negihama Grade: D- See above but with yellowtail and scallions. Escolar Grade: C My favorite out of the 5 set. Flavors were balanced nicely but grade is still lowered for tiny...
Read moreI'm usually a bit skeptical with sushi restaurants inland, but I was impressed at several points during my meal here. Portions are sizeable, making what may seem like typical "slightly overpriced" menu items well worth. Quality also blew me away, especially the oysters (fresh and larger than expected) and beef teriyaki (nicely seared cut of beef rather than the cheap meat you see 99% of the time).
Of course, the hand rolls were the big winners of the meal - the 5pc set hits a lot of classics while also including more interesting fish like tsubugai. My personal favorites were the aforementioned tsubugai and yuzu negihama, but my curiosity in the more premium options is certainly piqued. To top it off, they even threw in an ice cream for a birthday at our table (would recommend the lychee sorbet for sweet tooths - it even includes bits of lychee jelly).
Throughout our meal, the servers were always friendly and reliable, making sure to accommodate any requests or orders promptly (we asked for a lot of ginger). Not to mention, every dish came out incredibly quickly. Our first round of appetizers came out within minutes of ordering and we (group of 5) finished all 6-8 appetizers + hand roll set + ice cream for dessert within an hour.
Great experience, would come again, band hope more folks...
Read moreI honestly found out this new handroll spot in Elk Grove 30 minutes before arrival, so I had no expectations at all.
The large counter/sushi bar is impressive and chic. The seats were oddly low for me, and I had the urge to peek over what's on the other side of the counter...lol They also have regular tables for large parties.
We got the set of 5 handrolls (Salmon, Spicy Tuna, Yuzu Negihama, Kanpaci, and Escolar) to try. The spicy tuna was our favorite and got 2 more. The fish was fresh, and I like that it wasn't drenched in heavy sauce.
We also got the 5 pieces of sashimi because of high protein! I really like the fried oyster with the tartar sauce and shrimp tempura. Both nicely fried, crispy, and not overly battered.
Seoul Sister cocktail was very refreshing with yuzu elderflower infused soju, prosecco, and mint. Great for hot summer days!
Overall, I like the food and menu. It is pricey for a small portion of food. The set of 5 handrolls was $38, and my husband could have easily eaten...
