Update June 2019- Went in, pastry case was gone, and along with it a huge chunk of their already limited menu. Asked if it was gone for good and was informed that yes it was and now they were a “vegetarian restaurant, maybe vegetarian next week, maybe not”. A glance at the menu shows tons of egg dishes but whatever not here to police the vegetarian label. It’s Kind of a bummer that they don’t seem to know what they want their restaurant to be. popups and seasonal dishes are fun but without a consistent tone to the cuisine it’s harder to commit to going out of the way to stop there for an unknown. The food was decent but at least for me the pastry case rounded out the small portions of their main menu. The loss is hard to miss, like the jagged anchor holes in their counter top. ————————
Great restaurant with fresh ingredients and quality flavor. Cat & Cloud Coffee is another star just on its own.
An immaculately clean restaurant with plenty of seating indoors and out, you’ll be greeted by the pastry case as you enter witch thankfully has freshly baked treats that aren’t the same selection you see tricked into almost every other cafe in Santa Cruz county. You’ll be even more impressed when you taste them as they are expertly crafted and do not disappoint in the flavor department.
The next thing you’ll notice is the succint menu that is blown up on the wall. Started to have a little bit of the hipster food truck vibe on first glance with the higher prices and small portions but that is only skin deep. There’s surprising variety available and they’re not just remixing the same handful of ingredients, especially with the limited offerings (saw a pic of a duck breakfast sandwich).
We’ve sampled a majority of the menu and everything just tastes awesome. It’s not cheap but I’m willing to throw down some extra with the knowledge that the food will rock every time (I should qualify that with that the restaurant is sill young but seeing the owner in there managing the kitchen I’m pretty confident that this place will continue to be a winner).
The location suffers from the morning elementary school gridlock but that seems to clear up around 8:30am in...
Read moreAmazing vegetarian spot! I couldn't stop smiling after having lunch here :~) Everything is around/under $7, and so so tasty. The portions are juuust the right size - I left feeling satisfied and energized, without having to pack up any leftovers. This is important to me as I try to be mindful of food waste. I could tell that the food was thoughtfully created and prepared - they highlighted the natural flavors of the fresh fruits and veggies (from a farm 16 minutes up the road!!) without overwhelming them with salt or sauce. I admire their attention to detail and feel inspired to integrate some of these flavors into my own cooking.
Food aside, it was also just a great place to hang out! Everyone I interacted with was genuinely friendly and engaging. The outdoor space is beautiful, has a good amount of seating, and was conducive to enjoying delicious food in the sunshine. I didn't spend much time inside, but it was nicely designed as well - I enjoyed the openness and simplicity.
I am so happy this restaurant exists. I want to support businesses that are making tasty, sustainable food accessible to the community, and Pretty Good...
Read moreWould be 5 stars, but as a long time client with celiac, I am so so disappointed that they have stopped taking gluten free seriously. I have been eating here many times for years with no issues. The food is absolutely delicious! Sadly, I went on Wednesday for lunch. I got a California burger on a gluten free bun. When I opened it I was concerned because it looked like a normal bun, so I went back to the window to check. The girl in the window told me it looked like their gluten free buns, but would go check with the chef. She came back and said that it was gluten free. Because I have eaten here safely so many times before, I ate it thinking they had new buns… and I’ve been sick since. I still figured it had to be something else since I trust them- but I went back today to get food for my family and the gf bun was the old usual gf bun and the regular bun is definitely the one I ate. And they look nothing alike! Looked up recent GF reviews and apparently there has been a huge downturn with safety efforts, so it’s not just me. I’m so sad to lose my favorite restaurant, but I hope to save some other regulars from...
