Sunday afternoon and in search of a good burger....a quandary I'm sure many of us have found ourselves in. I've always been perfectly happy with burger places in the area like Arry's, Astro Burger, and my personal favorite from Bachan's Take-Out, however I wanted to see if there was something better around.
So after a quick Google search, enter Rick's Burgers. Rick's is set on Garvey Ave, a fairly shabby looking building, and a pretty typical looking burger place. Choosing to grab and go rather than eat in, I pulled up to their drive thru. After taking a minute to soak in the menu and my daughter yelling from the back seat that she wanted the pictured pancakes, eggs, and sausage (mind you, it was at her request that we sought out a hamburger), I pulled up to place my order. So our order consisted of a cheeseburger, fries, and a breakfast plate, which took a couple minutes longer because it wasn't breakfast time.
After breaking into our clamshell styrofoam containers, we dug in. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her breakfast. I must admit, the sausage and pancake that I stole from her was quite good, in the way all diner type places are....those perfect pancakes that are impossible to replicate at home. My hamburger however, was a little.....odd. It had all the usual components (sauce, tomato, pickle, etc.), but the meat had a seasoning that seemed out of place. I thought I caught a hint of cumin or something, although I usually am a fan of the spice, but in this application I just couldn't get on board. Also, my Sprite tasted a little off, not the first time I've run into that from a soda fountain, but alas, it isn't a pleasant experience.
I don't think I'll be making my way back to Rick's, but if you're in the area, you can certainly do worse....

Read moreDuring a family trip to Los Angeles from Salt Lake City we found ourselves a bit stranded, but managed to get stuck where we were lucky to find great freshly prepared food at Rick's Burger on Garvey Street in Rosemead (an area my wife, son, and I became quickly and well acquainted with).
I enjoyed an Avocado Cheeseburger combo while my wife had a Chef Salad w/Turkey & Ham, while my son had chicken strips. The food was delicious and hit the spot, and was a nice change of pace from traditional fast food. It felt like a classic diner from the long past. They had covered outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. I think with any future excursions to Los Angeles area, I would much rather stay in this area because of places like this.
Thank you to the great people at Rick's Burger for the...
