Edit 1: Dropped to 1 star based on owners response. I recommend Gluten Sensitive people avoid this place, your health is under threat and you can’t trust worker’s advice on ingredients nor expect improvements directed by management. Owner said: “You supposed to look out for yourself…”
I was a bit shocked to see the owners response to my review, I very much disagree with their mentality (see owner’s response below).
When ordering I asked the cashier for a gluten free bun and to also please let me know if there’s anything else with gluten/wheat on the burger because I have an allergy. The cashier said they were sure there was nothing with gluten on the burger.
When I was served the burger I saw the onion ring and was skeptical, onion rings can be gluten free but often are not. I brought the burger back to the cashier, she said the onion ring was gluten free, I didn’t believe her so requested she ask the cooks, they said it was beer-battered with wheat flour, which makes it definitely not gluten free so I didn’t eat it.
The owner’s response to my original review was: “It’s your job to read the ingredients posted on the menu,” which implies there’s an actual ingredients list on the menu; there is not, just a list of toppings. So when I ask the worker if the onion ring was gluten free and they said “yes, it is gluten free,” am I not supposed to take their word for it? I don’t know how it’s actually made, I don’t work here.
I do agree with the owners comment “You supposed to look out for yourself…,” which is what I did and will continue to do by not returning.
Original review: Gluten free folks be very careful eating here. I got a burger and requested gluten free, they gave me the GF bun but put a beer battered onion ring on it, which is definitely not GF.
The cashier assured me it was GF but clearly didn’t understand what GF was. Had to push back and explain to her and the kitchen staff what GF meant. A close call, almost got gluten poisoned.
They also told me only the sweet potato fries were GF, not the regular fries. Looking at other peoples regular fries and knowing they don’t understand what makes something GF makes me question that.
Cost $23 for a burger and fries. It was good but took a ton of effort to prevent them from gluten poisoning me and was...
Read moreVery very sad about this place. We are locals and were thrilled when a burger joint went in on Ventura blvd. We went the first week it opened and have continued to go. It USED to be amazing even for the price. Not so anymore. About a year ago they changed buns from a light brioche bun to a boring everyday and smaller bun. Then most recently they changed the bun and it tastes like a potatoe bun which is far too heavy and sweet for this kind of burger. In addition, the burgers are reguarly cooked on rare side so we order ours medium well. But when the burger comes out hot and immediately the bun is half soaked, there is something wrong. The bacon has also significantly declined in quality. You can tell they have new cooks or regular turnover of cooks. If you watch you can also tell they are trying to cut corners (quality) to maximize their profit.
I agree wholeheartedly with one of the other commenters. This place has a wanna be hip vibe about it. It has SO much potential. The drab atmosphere and ho-hum staff, coupled with disappointing food.... UGH terribly disappointing for locals like us! After 3x disappointed we may not be back. The prices are FAR too high even if the rent on VB is expensive. You get a burger for $10 then add fries for $5 and a drink for $3. Far too much for the quality and atmosphere. Try bumping up the ceilings and brightening the place. Expand the bar. Get better staff. Go back to the quality you had and this place will...
Read moreThe burgers here are generally very good. Unless you are a BIG eater, a double is overkill. The patties are huge.
There are several burger options, and you can customize each one quite a bit, including choosing different kinds of protein (beef, chicken, etc.), adding/removing condiments and veggies. The mods aren't free, but they're not very expensive.
I wish they had better fries. They are usually not well cooked and too salty. And I can't stand any of the sides that start with "Blvd". That just means they add feta, mint and garlic aoli. I like all of those things but not together! So be careful to only order "Blvd fries" if you want that odd mix of flavors. The Blvd salad is also underwhelming (lettuce, cucumber, dried cranberries, feta) - it needs onions, tomatoes and maybe some shredded carrot to give it a more balanced flavor profile. It would be great if they added steak fries to the list of sides (they are harder to cook wrong IMO), or at least tune up the fryer to make their regular fries a little more enjoyable.
I've never tried any non-beef sandwiches, but they have some very interesting chicken options that deserve to be investigated one day.
Staff is friendly and helpful. I've never eaten in the restaurant, but it seems cozy and pleasant. Overall, I would recommend giving Blvd Burger a shot. Maybe you will love the Blvd...
