Ottavio's Italian Restaurant — Restaurant in Camarillo

First of all, the one star review is well deserved after eating at this establishment. I'll get the to the worst part in a bit. We decided to go to Ottavio's for my fiancee's bday since this was recommended by friends. As we arrived, we were welcomed by friendly staff at the front and were taken to our seats. This is were our problems started. The server was nice enough for us to enjoy our evening, but that extra "we are here for you" attitude was missing. This could have been due to the busy night he was having, but that's where the service went downhill. We waited a while to get our drinks, and we didn't get our wine until we asked the third time. Our refils also took longer to the point we weren't enjoying the meal. Now to the horrible part. The food...we orderd the seafood pasta with red sauce. The food was ok tasting, but after a few bites in, I immediately felt something wrong. My stomach was not accepting the food well so I stopped eating. A few minutes later, my worst fear came true and I had an upset stomach and spent about 30 min in their bathroom with diarrhea. I took Pepto and waited until I was ok to leave the restaurant. It gets worse. My fiancee didn't eat her food so she took it home and decided to eat her leftovers later..she shared with my daughter and immediately my fiancee had diarrhea, vomiting, chills and a fever after eating their leftovers. My daugher had a late reaction and I had to pick her up from school after she was feeling nauseous. She also threw up twice and now I have to keep her from school from what her doctor believes is food poisoning. All this from the same food we all ate at Ottavios. Having said this, we looked at the Health Inspection Report for this restaurant and it seems to fail on properly storing food and food related items to protect from cross contamination. The actual comment form the inspector states, "observed raw shrimp, raw breaded chicken, calamari and marinara sauce uncovered in the walk in fridge"... I'll add a picture of the inspection report. This was my first time here and I wanted to love it, but unfortunately, I will not be going back and will not recommend this place. I'm sure I could be an isolated issue, but there are other reviews here saying they have also gotten sick from their food. For those that enjoy this place, great! But for me I will say it's not worth...

You know, my wife and I tried this place a few weeks back and loved the food. We decided to take our daughters for a family dinner and it didnt work out. I understand that they were busy but after waiting 30 minutes and getting seated.. 30 minutes passed by and nobody came t our table for water or appetizers. Finally a bus boy saw us and offered us bread. NO water yet, 15 minutes go by and a couple gets seated next to us, the coupple ended up mioving tio a new table and wa waitress comes with 2 waters intended foir the couple but acme to us and said oh I thougt it was for 2... She gave us the waters and brought 2 more a few minutes later. She said she couldnt take our oreder because they wouldnt let her and someone else was assigned. 10 more minutes pass by, still no waiter/waitress. A family of 4 gets seated nexts to us, they get menus, waters and bread right away and they get their order. We still dont have anybody checking on us... NO waiter/waitress and bus biys keep passing by and nothing... We wait another 10 minutes giving them the benefit of the doubt even thought the family that got seated almost after an hour than us has been taken care of.. We finally agve up and just walked away to go eat somewhere else. As I am pulling out of the parking spot, the waitress that wasnt allowed to wait on us looks at me and thropws her hands up so.. I tell her, you were there 30 a while ago and saw nobody attended us, then we wait even after the other family got taken care of and nothing so we left... It was very frustratingh and disappointing. We waited, never got asked do you need anything even though we mentioned we were there for a while... It was very disappointing especially after we were raving to family and friends about this place and were hoping our daughters would experienced what my wife and I experienced the first...

Worst meal I've had in a long time. The restaurant didn't cook the meat correctly... Very dry, well done and very charred (I asked for medium rare and the meat was so over cooked it was grey in the middle). There was so much char that I'm pretty sure the grill they cooked on had not been scoured. I've been trying to get the taste out of my mouth. I like some char on my meat but this felt like sucking on a charcoal brick.

Sauce for steak was too sour for my taste...and I'm someone who actually enjoys A1. I should have tasted it before pouring it.

I asked them to vent the container of the fried calamari (or add a napkin in it) to stop it from getting soggy. They didn't do either and put it in a tight container. If I hadn't paid more for expedited delivery, I might have gotten damp steamed fried calamari. Yum.

Ironically, they put my side salad in a ventilated container.... Which is cold and doesn't need ventilation.

The calamari's seasoning and preparation was actually good, but not packaging it properly meant sacrificed some of the crisp...

The meal came with a side of spaghetti which was prepared well and had a decent very basic tomato sauce. However, for a $60 GrubHub order, I feel ripped off.

I suspect the vegetables were microwaved frozen vegetables that were under seasoned. The carrots were whole baby carrots that were not cut or prepared in any way. It's possible that these were steamed from fresh, but they were still not well prepared.

I have not eaten at the restaurant in person. I don't know if their preparation would be better, but I'm legitimately upset for such a foul tasting meal.

TLDR; $60 for grey over cooked meat (should have been medium rare) and tasted horrible, microwaved(??) or steamed tasteless veggies, fried calamari incorrectly packaged. Didn't read my requests or chose to...
