We were pretty excited about the opening of Detroit Pizza here in Camas. We ordered the Motor City Meatball Detroit style and picked it up. The good: the team working there was friendly and seemed pretty locked in. The place was buzzing but didn’t feel frenetic, credit to them as they were getting up to speed having just opened 48 hours earlier. The sauce is well balanced and bold, not too sweet, probably my favorite part of their pizza. The meatballs had good flavor and held their own on the pie.
The average/not so good: it is not really Detroit style despite the name. It looks like it should and is assembled correctly but lacks much of what makes Detroit style so darn good. The crust lacks the airy, chewy texture, but more importantly is the lack of browned, crispy cheese that should spill over the edges of the slices. For those who have enjoyed Buddy’s back in the D, this just feels like it’s missing that rich flavor and distinct quality that makes it such a treat. For my money, Ranch PDX and Ruse are really the only shops that get it right. If you’re going to call yourself Detroit Pizza, you should be able to deliver the goods….
On another note, we ordered a large Motor City Meatball which was $34.99. If you order the exact same thing, literally the exact same thing by building your own, the very same pie costs about $8.00 less; weird pricing model. When I mentioned to the manager that I was surprised that ordering their specialty pizzas cost so much more than had I just built it my own, I got a “yeah”…..…. Pay attention to their pricing.
Overall, I’d say it’s pretty average. We ate half of it that night and the other half is still sitting in the fridge a couple days later. No one is angling for it which is...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to give Detroit Pizza a try after an invitation from an employee, and we couldn't have been happier with our experience. The food was amazing, the drinks were fantastic, and it was kid-friendly for our 19-month-old. My husband and I rarely agree on pizzas, but we finally did here. Their cheese bread is no joke. The cheese pull is serious business! The Mac Attack is a creative, fun, ultra-cheesy option that we'll definitely enjoy again soon. The Renaissance has a fantastic marinara, the crust is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the toppings were plentiful. My son couldn't get enough of the marinara sauce and kept insisting on more of it. We also ordered the Joe Louis Knockout Margarita and the Lavender Motor City Drop. Both were really flavorful with good pours. I'm excited that they deliver out to Washougal (they will deliver in a 6 mile radius, sometimes 8). We don't have many options out here, so it's great to add another amazing place to the options. The service was absolutely incredible, and everyone was so friendly. Don't be fooled by its location, and don't just pass it by. You definitely need to try...
Read moreMy family and I ordered online for dinner and the time/delivery was good, no complaints there. The food on the other hand was nothing to write home about. We ordered breadsticks, pumpkin dessert sticks, a cheese pizza, and a pepperoni pizza.
Very expensive for the quality of food. The four items cost $77.00
The pizza looks great, but that’s about it. Taste wise, it’s bland and lacks any kind of flavor. The cheese was undercooked and the crust was hard. We ordered flavored crust and we couldn’t tell it was flavored at all.
The breadsticks looked good but lacked flavor. I could see the seasonings on them, but it wasn’t flavorful. The breadstick fluffiness was good though. We ended up melting butter over the top and it was delicious after that.
the pumpkin dessert sticks were the most disappointing. There is a picture on their website of what they are supposed to look like and the actual product is not even close to what we expected. Couldn’t taste the pumpkin and the topping is mostly cinnamon with a little bit of sugar.
We are bummed at the price and qualify of food we ordered. Won’t be...
