I just had the absolute WORST experience at a restaurant of my life. I was a waitress for 8 years and am now a hospice RN working with only 30 minutes to eat lunch before needing to get back in the field. I called in my food and was told if I got there after 230 pm they could not seat me, I said that should be just fine as I was projected to get there before then and would be leaving by 3 pm anyway with my short lunch break. When I arrived at 228 pm (as I told her I would on the phone), the waitress told me she could not seat me and would be giving me my food to go and sending me on my way. I tried to be patient at first as I thought it must be a misunderstanding. I explained all I was told and that my food was ordered in advance so there was no reason I could not sit down, even though I arrived at before the deadline. She said no again. I asked to speak to a manager, she said there was none there. I requested again to be seated explaining I was on my lunch and had no where else to eat my food comfortably. She still said no. I then got very angry (which is very hard to get me to do) and demanded to be able to eat my food there, showing her the time of 2:28, as I was told I could do on the phone, she again said "um, no" with such a cold and uncaring manner. I walked past her to the sushi chef and asked him if I could sit, he happily said yes go ahead and pointed me to a seat. The waitress told me her name is Carson. She said "and my manager loves me" as if to rub it in my face that she would not get reprimanded for this unspeakable behavior. I hope to get contacted by this unreachable manager soon so I can have peace of mind knowing this rude young woman gets what she deserves. She has no business being given the honor of a server in such an otherwise nice restaurant, or anywhere, unless she has some serious and effective discipline and correction of behavior. I give it a 2 simply for service, not a one, because the food is probably great, I just could not even bear to stomach any that I was eventually given without feeling sick to my stomach after being treated so poorly. If she weren't there it may have...
Read moreThe food was OK, nothing special. The wait though, that was something else. We walked and were seated right away, but it took almost an hour to get our food.
I understand that places can get backed up, but the lack of communication about the wait was not cool. All it would have taken was, "Hey, we just had a rush come in, this order will take a while, is that OK?"
The way they handled it after we had to wait a long time for our food wasn't great either. The staff was dismissive and the service really just was terrible...
At the end, they did offer us fro-yo, but it was too little, too late.
UPDATE::
I received a reply from the owner and it didn't really make much sense:
--So when we are busy you want us to explain it to you. --We are a tiny little place in a small town. No huge staff. --Just me and my wife. So if you think we are terrible please don’t ever -------come back. --Lol remember we feed the company you are trying to sell your products
REPLY: Since I can't respond directly, here's my reply:
To reiterate, we were seated immediately and there were several empty tables. To me that's not was busy looks like. So when you're half empty, but happen to get all your orders at once, maybe letting someone know that it might take almost an hour....
And don't worry, we don't live near you and I don't know who you think we are since we don't work or "sell [our] products" in your area. We...
Read moreThere's not a lot of competition in Camas, so I don't expect to find outstanding sushi locally, especially with the limitations that Covid forces upon the restaurant industry these days. But even my lowered expectations were too high.
The Japanese word 'sushi' literally refers to the rice used not only as the physical base for its garnishments of fish or vegetables, but as the vehicle to enhance and elevate the flavor of its garnishment. Specifically, sushi means sour or tart, flavor profiles which should turn ordinary ingredients like raw fish or even plain cucumber into explosions of flavor in the mouth.
Ignoring the importance of that vehicle rendered our sushi rolls into a bland experience that would have a sushi newcomer asking what the fuss was all about.
As a frequent traveler to Japan, even the sushi bought at convenience stores or conveyor belt sushi joints has at least the pleasing flavor saturation that comes with the right amount of sweet, salty tartness, and the firm bite of the individual grains of rice and the savory taste of umami that defines properly prepared sushi rice. Sadly, the sushi rice at this restaurant seemed prepared without regard to its important role, rendering the other garnishments unimpressive.
Maybe it was an off night, so I'll give the place another shot. Like I said, there's not a lot of local...
