$13? Are you joking?
Well I’m not!
This is my 4th attempt to have a good—or even medium, experience at Natalia’s. Sadly, the excuses I made for the cold, flavorless food and limited menu which I assumed (based on the CRAZY reviews) were tolerated because of COVID, are confirmed to me to just be a result of Natalia’s monopoly on downtown Camas breakfast restaurants.
I’ve tried 3 egg/savory breakfast meals, and today was attempting to get the French toast, as a gal from town suggested that it was amazing and even a good deal (which would be shocking given the prices I’ve paid here for lackluster dishes). Decided to give it another go, and strolled in to place my order with the tall, college-age looking guy in the beanie.
“Two orders of the Natalia’s French toast”, I said, “a friend raved about it and said it was a specialty!”. The guy wrote it down, charged me the $13 for it and we proceeded to wait 25 min for the food. The French toast pieces arrived more or less on time for the estimate, but I was S H O C K E D. I literally went back and asked if what I had was 2 pieces, or maybe they had the other box someplace else. I went to check the menu, because surely one slice of tiny bread battered and fried was not $6.50. And surely this tiny thing wasn’t their “specialty” French toast.
I was helped by a different person, and the gal confirmed, that yes, that was the two pieces, nothing was missing. I proceeded to ask if this was their specialty French toast, and the waitress said that this item was the regular French toast, and that they also have Cinnamon Roll French Toast. “Do you want that?”, she asked.
We left.
Now, I get it, out of the small number of things on the menu, I neglected to order the ONE French toast over the other. BUT EVEN IF I DID, how can a reasonable restaurant justify selling me two pieces of cooked bread w egg, for $13? And really, Beanie-clad server, with all your professional knowledge of this small menu, ask if I want the PLAIN BREAD French toast, or the specialty French toast, would ya?
So disappointed that this charming spot is not functionally living up to its idyllic façade.
As a piece of advice, hit up Caffe Piccolo, say hi to Ali or Brittany and get some great coffee and a breakfast sandwich or almond croissant. It will all be served up affordable, flavorful, and with a smile.
Also, would offering a non-pork breakfast meat option kill anyone? If we’re gonna rival Portland prices, at least throw in a veggie...
Read moreIt does not look like the owners even read these reviews, but I wish they did because they really should fire the woman who was serving food today! This is my first review less than 5 stars. The service here on 5/22/19 was so awful that nothing else that happened or the food could bring up this rating. First let me add that I am very easy-going. If you are kind I can roll with whatever comes my way. I was having lunch with two friends. The sandwich I wanted was made with Swiss cheese, which I don't like. I asked if and what was available as a substitute. I chose Pepper Jack. One of my friends asked if she could also do the same on her sandwich. We were told yes. She confirmed and noted this all on her notepad. My friends got their sandwiches and my friend got Swiss instead of Pepper Jack. The waitress apologizes, but apparently expects her to eat it as is. These were both grilled with Swiss on both slices of bread. When she hears that no she wants it replaced or fixed however because she can't eat Swiss, the waitress says something like are you serious? Takes the plate and storms off. I am not kidding I have never seen a server let it all out how she felt even though my friend was so polite during this whole exchange. I have waited tables in hard busy places. I have waited tables in NYC so I know what it is like. It is hard work, but under no circumstances would it be acceptable to act in this manner. Even if a customer was rude! It was so inappropriate, I just had to get the word out. It was meal ruining and no apology or one word about it. It was just ok with them I guess to take out their mistake on a customer! My sandwich also had Swiss cheese which I do not like, but believe me I just shut up and ate. Who knows what would have happened if I said a peep. What an...
Read moreNatalia's Cafe has the best breakfast I have had in a long time! Nichole, our waitress, during the week, was so welcoming. Every morning she welcomed us back to the cafe and brought us our coffee without even asking! She was so personable and gave us ideas of how to spend our days in Camas. We felt right at home in this cafe. We had the CBT omelet with bacon, hash browns and toast. They were generous portions and delicious! The food was served piping hot and very fast. The coffee was delicious too. After a few days of having the omelet, I decided to try the brioche French toast. My husband and I split the omelet breakfast and the brioche. It was just the right combination of protein and sweet taste at the end of the meal. I thought the brioche French toast was the best until...A couple days before we left, I saw Debby's cinnamon roll French toast served to another customer. I asked Nichole what that was called. She described it is a homemade cinnamon roll with apples, battered and grilled. I only was able to enjoy it for my last two days. It was sooo delicious as they say, " to die for". The old American diner has counter space in front of the grill where you can watch the cook prepare your meal. The other side of the cafe is vintage soda shop with 50's decor and Flying A gas pumps. During the spring they do serve scoops of ice cream and milkshakes. You think you are in an episode of Happy Days. Besides the food, the people we met at the diner were so friendly! The owner, Erica, came over to our table to see if we had everything we needed. You can tell she has put her heart into this cafe and it really shines through! We will definitely be coming back for the food and...
