An eclectic, quaint little place with great atmosphere, friendly service, and fantastic food. Salmon I had was fresh and moist, prepared to perfection with a light citrus sauce and spices. Wild rice with orange zest, sautéed spinach (just slightly too well salted, but I'm picky that way), and grilled asparagus wrapped in a thinly sliced carrot wrap complemented the fish and was presented with care. My daughter's pasta was equally interesting--truffle oil and fresh grated cheese, lightly grilled red, orange, and yellow peppers amongst other touches. The meals at the table next to ours from the 8 inch tall stacked burger to the kale and chicken salad looked great as well (I saw the kale and chicken salad after I'd ordered--next visit it's a must).
The wait staff (team of three served us) was friendly, engaging, and described the menu as if it was the first time they had been asked, not from rote script that is all too often the case. The dining room was very cozy (about 10 tables in a 20 by 20 room) and shared the fireplace with the hotel guests in the very intimate lobby. (if you're looking for private conversation, probably not the best place to go due to the closeness of tables--but it added to the pub-like informality that was clearly intended).
If I had any negative comment it was minor--the young waitress didn't quite know the etiquette of wine tasting and serving failing to leave me the cork and pouring my glass first after I'd tasted rather than pouring my daughters glass first--but that's the worst one can find with this hidden gem. Now we were there late (8:30 PM) on a slow weekday night, so if it was a very busy weekend perhaps our experience would have been different. But from my perspective, it would be hard to go wrong at the...
Read moreFood and service at The Black Sheep are always phenomenal. As an MIT employee I often stop by for lunch with colleagues and we're always pleased with the service and dining options. The patio is wonderful in the warmer months and the dining room is cozy, warm, and welcoming during the cooler months.
In addition to normal dining I have also had the pleasure to host several events at The Black Sheep and I can say that the staff here is far and away the easiest and most accommodating group of professionals that I have dealt with. Santos the Restaurant Manager is always happy to help and will go out of his way to make sure that everything is always perfect. Additionally, the staff that we have during our events, Odair and Viviane, are beyond helpful and are a lot of fun.
I would highly recommend The Black Sheep for dinner, lunch, and especially to host your next event. Santos and his staff are a cut...
Read morePricey, meh. It's a tiny dining room off the lobby of a fancy hotel. Prices include gratuity. Not great for a quick dinner, but handy if you are staying in one of the many hotels in the area for a few days and want a change of pace. Service attitude varied from the supercilious and oddly stiff to frank and friendly with the different wait staff and servers during just one meal. The much bally-hooed homemade potato chips were not crisp and not overly flavorful. I've eaten better food at a pub, felt more welcome, and paid a...
