I’ve been a loyal customer at Izzy’s Ice Cream in Harvard Square for quite some time, regularly making the trip from Braintree just for their ginger flavor. So when my husband was craving butter pecan, I called ahead to confirm they had it. They said yes, so I drove all the way over and spent $32 (plus tip) on four pints.
After purchasing, I simply asked the employee for a tiny sample spoon so my daughter could try her ice cream in the car. To my shock, he told me he could sell me a spoon but would not give me one. When I explained that I’ve always been given a sample spoon when trying new flavors, he insisted that I should’ve asked to sample before buying. I responded, “Should I return the ice cream, sample it, and buy it again then?”—clearly frustrated and confused.
Instead of understanding, he accused me of being an “antagonist” and said he would have to refuse my business. All over a plastic spoon—AFTER I spent over $30. I reminded him I come in weekly, and he sarcastically said, “Well if you come here all the time, how come you didn’t know we had pecan flavor?”
Excuse me?? That comment was rude, petty, and completely uncalled for. What kind of business treats a regular customer like this? It’s like going to a restaurant, ordering a meal, and being told you can’t have a fork unless you ask for one first.
This was the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. I will absolutely be speaking to a manager and I will NEVER spend another penny here. Disrespectful, unprofessional, and flat-out ridiculous. I will never come here again and spend...

Read moreI would definitely recommend a visit here. I tried creamy yummy sugar free ice cream that was not icy or taste like chemicals. I also had a great normal sugar but super sweet blackberry ice cream. I wish I has a little more blackberry flavor. I also had a scoop of ginger ice cream which was unfortunately a little icy and the ginger flavor was a touch muted, but still tasty. Staff let me sample each flavor and I got a cute little bowl so I could walk and eat it on the nice hot July4th day. The atmosphere- it is a place you grab and go and it is small, a narrow shop you might miss if driving a bit too fast. They have pints for take out and are willing to make you one in house if they don't have the flavor in the freezer. For about $8 a nice place to stop in....
