First Watch — Restaurant in Canton Township

*Unfortunately I have to edit my previous review due to today’s encounter with the manager Ryan Allen. My family and I visit this location pretty frequently and I have never had a problem with the service at all, the waiters are always on point. The food is usually good as well, however a couple of weeks ago we placed a pick up order and it was made incorrectly- asked for no cheese and they put cheese in it. My potatoes and onions were half burnt and did not taste good at all. My bf called once we opened up the order to inform them of the issues and he was told that they would remake his order whenever he wanted to come pick up a new one (didn’t have time to go back same day). Fast forward to today when I was dining in with a friend, my bf called back to inquire about the order being remade for him since I was already there and was told by Ryan Allen the incompetent manager that he could not do that. In fact he went on to say that wasn’t his store policy and no one would have told him that - obviously someone did or we wouldn’t have asked or we could have taken a credit or refund for the meal but one was never offered. Since I was in the restaurant I requested to speak to him in person (my bf said if I had a picture he would remake it) and I also showed him pictures of the cheese as well as burnt potatoes. Now I have worked many years in hospitality and a simple apology and new meal would have been the most logical resolution here but instead he told me mistakes happen and he can’t go remaking meals from weeks ago or everybody will try to get a new meal. Pause, I’m not worried about everyone and if the kitchen is messing up that many orders then it seems like a managerial issue. He never once took responsibility for their mistakes but instead made it seem like I was there looking for a free meal that I wasn’t entitled to. He made no effort to rectify my situation at all even when I told him we were regular customers who clearly had just finished a meal at this establishment (spending more money at this place) and clearly our patronage wasn’t valuable to the business. I couldn’t help but wonder if skin tone was a factor in his decision to stand by “his policy” to make sure the customer left unhappy after finishing a what could have been a nice breakfast. I was completely disgusted with his response and even him going back on what he had just said to my bf via phone. The guy was a complete jerk and i certainly will not spend another dollar at this...

Well here we go… first time there, someone raved and wanted me to experience it. Ive worked in Guest Service for over 20 years… so Im pretty understanding… but this place… on this day…. was Bad… actually left me feeling Almost Depressed. So, Unfortunately The waitress (whose name Ive decided I will give to Leadership if they ask) “literally told me I don’t care what happens here… Im quitting in 3 days… Ive had a bad experience here and its terrible”. I advised her to punch out and Go Home then lol, why ruin everyone’s experience because you don’t want to be here… she agreed and said she was quitting on the spot. I repeatedly asked for a manager and she kept claiming “they are busy and will not come to help you”. I was told the wait would be 30 mins.. we saw other people sit prior who came after… It took an hour 🧐🤔. We were told “its the online system… when I tried to explain the situation… we were oddly cut off mid sentence and Told “it is what it is… deal with it”. “Bad part is when I asked the waitress for her name, I only wanted to speak with her on a more personal level as she seemed frustrated and tired… But she made an assumption I guess that I wanted to put her name in the review.. 🤷.” She proceeded to not serve us, and tend to other customers… not aware that I could hear her odd repeated comments of venting to her other customers about her day…. And complaining about us… her behavior almost made us afraid to eat there as if she was intentionally trying to make us leave… Ive never experienced this before honestly. Another customer tried to speak with a gentleman about the same thing… the male bartender yelled “Im done, Im out of here… someone get a manager”! I Thought you could only see this in the movies... I feel for the staff if management is really That Bad… so as a seasoned professional here’s my advice… “Kill the online Reservation system”… its not fair to people who walk up to the door… rule of thumb is always “First Come First Serve”. This might just resolve Most of your problems. Back to the Waitress… looks like when she threatened to leave, they just gave her another section. Really Depressing Experience 😞 Oh, and the hostess kept yelling across the building and complaining. When my partner tried to speak with her about the extended wait… she just walked away. 😔😒 Luckily a bright, smiling young waitress named Olivia saved the day for my partner. Burning my food on purpose, putting a pound of salt on my food and messing my last 10 orders up obviously shows you’ve singled me out and don’t want my business at the Canton Michigan and Toledo Ohio locations. I tell you, it’s hard being a handsome, successful black male surrounded by jealousy, hatred, racism of people constantly trying to single me out, bring me down, attack me physically and mentally in this world; However, none of this works from nothing or nobody anymore on me. I’m on a new level consciously and soaring high above the hatred and racism of the world of today. Don’t worry, I get it from everyone of all ethnicities. People are programmed not to see a black person really make it without playing a sport or rapping! This hatred would have worked a couple of years ago and made me mad; now, all I see is people struggling, taught to hate and need someone to blame or put down to feel better. If you’re constantly mad and don’t feel successful or happy, go look in the mirror and blame and work on the person you see reflecting back at you! I’m in a better situation than I know anyone my age. Just sad, I’ll spend $50 on myself and purchase 2-3 meals just to eat all day and treat myself regularly! Maybe 🤔 thats why they hate me? Believe me, my success has nearly gotten me killed with plenty of bumps and bruises everyone sees and I have to live with the rest of my life! But guess what, I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙌🏽 Because looking at my situation and the stress of everyone else’s in todays world, I feel lucky to be alive and set for life! 🤑 I burn bread like the food they give me. Or is it the real diamonds on my neck and hands when I walk in. Or maybe the waitresses go crazy for me and the cooks get jealous and mess up my food. Or is it racism? Or Small town mindedness? Believe me, I’m not perfect, but no one deserves to have their food tampered with. The current political climate has everyone looking like a minority!
