Came here on the recommendation of my best friend and it was both our first time here. So we were excited to check them out being they just opened. Keep in mind, I go to alot of middle eastern restaurants and I can be quite critical when new shops wanna reinvent the wheel. Another note, I'm from way end of the far east side so this is a major drive for me.
Onto the food, service and overall experience. Soon as we walked in, headed to the cashier area picking up a menu. Everything seemed ok up until we were greeted. The man greeted us in the Arab traditional way with us responding back the same. My friend told the man it's our first time and asked what's popular. That's where things immediately went downhill. The man just seemed soo unbothered with a very bland answer. Which we both thought was kinda rude. Keep in mind we were the only 2 people in the entire shop so nothing was in the way of giving us a better first impression..but instead a very dull response. Every other new shop I've been to, owners were beyond friendly, would give detailed information about dishes with excitement. Hey maybe it's just a new experience for everyone but hospitality is a big deal in customer service and you want the customers to feel the excitement of any newcomer on the block..that was all totally missing while visiting this shop.
Once we put our order through, we headed to a booth to wait for our food. I order the chicken shawarma bowl while my friend order the shawarma combo. 10 minutes later, we get called to pick up our food from the counter. Everything was fresh off the grill. Food was presented messy as you see in the pictures. Tbh, nothing special here in my experience and opinion of course. Food was very average and low quality . Had some dry pieces of chicken, and very little amount of meat for a chicken bowl dish. Was quite disappointed being that 90% of my bowl was practically a salad. My friends shawarma sandwich was similar low quality and had the same thoughts about the food being of very low quality.
Overall, I'm glad this was our first time coming in and we won't be coming back. I'm trying to be honest as possible and our expectations were just not met nor left with a good impression. Note to the owner, I'd highly recommend having employees being more enthusiastic about being there and make your customer first impressions more enjoyable vs bland attitudes. Really don't like calling out shops this way but overall..nothing passed the vibe check. I'd also recommend putting garbage cans in the dining room. We looked around for one and none were around. Found that to be the oddest part. Lastly, probably being a little picky here but the right utensils would've made it way more convenient with eating a chicken bowl that had rice. Was difficult to enjoy my food when eating it...
Read moreShawarma Box is a new Middle Eastern fast casual restaurant in Canton MI. While the term “ Middle Eastern, Mediterranean “ can be used to describe any place selling a Shawarma most places are Lebanese in nature. While i can’t define the ethnicity of this restaurant i can say the food was fast delicious and the service was friendly.
The Shawarma ( Which actually just means turning in English) , was medium sized and flavored very nicely, it was also set into a hot press aka a panini which really helps develop crispy outside and expands on the flavors.
The hummus was fine but noting you haven’t had before, as well as the baba Ganouj. Worth trying but not a high note necessarily.
The big let down for me was the supposed lemon rice soup that lacked any essence of tart lemon. Which is surprising considering the region where this food is relies heavily on amazing wonderful rich warm spices this was lacking and most of that.
Overall the staff was very friendly the service was quick and it’s medium to fair priced , I can say I’ll return and give it another shot and definitely don’t skip out on trying one of their Shawarma’s
Definitely worth...
Read moreWhen I picked up my order, I immediately felt there was a pricing issue. I called the restaurant before checking my printed receipt at home, and the prices I was quoted over the phone didn’t match what was on the receipt. Although the employee claimed to be reading directly from the screen, it felt like he was inflating prices to justify the overcharge.
For example, he told me the ice cream was $6, but the receipt showed $4. He also claimed that 2 oz of garlic sauce costs $1.50 — which is already overpriced, considering it’s usually around $0.50 — but the receipt showed I was charged $5 for a single cup. I had ordered three sandwiches, which typically come with one cup of garlic each, yet I only received one.
When I returned to the restaurant and brought this up, the employee claimed he had given me five cups, which was simply not true. Despite all this, they only refunded me $4 instead of the $5 I was overcharged.
I left feeling disappointed by the way this was handled. Rather than owning up to the mistake, they gave conflicting information and shorted me...
