I was so sad to hear about Matsuchan going under new management as my boyfriend and I have enjoyed eating here under the previous owners. We didn’t want to totally base our experience off of the previous owners, but it’s hard not to because of how tasty, comfortable, and affordable it was. I will start off with the customer service. I think the customer service was pretty much the same and it’s kinda hard not to give good customer service because we were the only customers dining in.
As you can see in the two pictures above, there is a big difference compared to the last picture which is from the previous owners which I was disappointed about. There is a considerable difference in size, quantity, and quality. I ordered the shoyu Ramen and I thought the broth was very salty. and I was a little disappointed because the noodles were skinny and even though I do love buckwheat noodles they were undercooked. The meat was really dry as well, which I was disappointed about and I really love green onion, excess green onion. And they charged extra for that. This ramen is almost 18-20 depending on if you want any extra ingredients. The price and quantity difference is insane.
I was also disappointed because they took away the chili oil and if you wanted a spicy soup you had to pay a whole dollar extra. Compared to the last owners there was also a large Ramen selection, but now their menu consist of only three different types of Ramen to order.
Also I’m not sure why but halfway through a dining experience it smelled really bad inside the restaurant.
Obviously, I know that there won’t be another great affordable Ramen place like the old owners, and I wish the new owners...
Read moreI remember always visiting this restaurant with my friends, my two cousins and my two sister in the past, when it was still own by the original owner. I always like this restaurant for having a variety of amazing Japanese dish with affordable price and good portion.
When one of my friend told me to visit the restaurant one time, because it was under new management, we decided to check it out.
While there I was going to order myself a corn butter ramen, Katsudon, or rice curry, which were the common order that I would always make when visiting Matsuchan. But as soon as I look over the new menu and after talking with the new owner, I soon realized that the order that I was going to make as usual won't be on the new menu. Also, both me and my friend were kind of disappointed by the cost of our miso ramen, cost of the appetizer, and the portion size. However, we both still like the flavor of our soup, the service was good, and the atmosphere are just as good like when it was still under the previous owner.
I understand that this restaurant had just recently been bought under a new owner, and it would be difficult to still make the same order of food with a good portion like how it was under the previous owner with this economy. But my only question would be, when will the new owner reinstate much of the old order from the previous owner and if they will ever...
Read moreNEW REVIEW: Matsu-chan has come under new younger ownership. The new owners understand flavour!
The Chashu shows has new life behind it; as it is tender....and more importantly...not gamey! The old owner's chashu was very gamey and you had to tolerate it to eat it. The new owner's chashui will work as an appetizer itself.
I had the Tantamen, which is a creamy and reminds you of the Dandan noodles its based off of. There was a nice kick of spice to the flavour that was stimulating and not painful. Also the bone broth base is very good; with the old owner, the broth needed some more help in flavour that it was best when you ordered it as a hybrid Miso-bone broth mix. Now this broth is really flavorful itself.
I do not understand why there are so many negative reviews for the new ownership. Yes the portion may be smaller; but it is still a hefty amount. They are obviously putting some love into their food....I high recommend trying Matsu-chan as it is now!
OLD REVIEW FROM YEARS AGO: Nice lil corner place for you to get your fix of ramen and staple foods like Katsu, dumplings, rice Donburi dishes, and more.
All the staple foods hit the spot and are filling. And staff are nice.
I personally like the donburi dishes more...
