We had a great server - she was friendly, present, and took great care of us. I wish I could recall her name because she was the only good thing about our visit.
We waited almost 45 minutes because we were told this is a great place to eat and online reviews support that (as well as the number of people waiting for a table). Not sure what all the hype is about, food seemed like it was pre-made or frozen, and plates were just put together in the kitchen. Not sure anything was fresh.
Ordered fried green beans and fried pickles as appetizers, both came out room temperature, so we really didn't enjoy either.
There were five of us, one ordered the baked potato (8.99. It was the size of a typical side potato - couldn't believe it cost so much. I had the grilled pork chops and opted for the 1/2 order. Glad I did because I barely ate the one served to me. Very thin chop, absolutely no seasoning, tasted frozen. Others had chopped steak and a burger and no one finished their meals.
Salad bar was ok - typical toppings, with pickled okra, potato salad, macaroni salad, and pea salad - glad it's free with entree though.
Free beans available along with cold cornbread muffins. Not impressed.
Would love to hear from those that love this place. What did you have and why was it so good?
I don't recommend and...
Read moreThis place is a cross between cozy and cafeteria style. There was a bit of a wait during lunch to get a table cleaned off for me (I was alone), but this was handled quickly while the owner (I presume he was the owner, maybe manager) assured me that if I was not taken care of properly, he wanted me to inform him.Ok
My server was excellent. Anyone who can magically appear with drink refills as if reading your mind is a good person to keep around. She was kind, enthusiastic, and gave a genuinely sincere aura of concern that I have a good experience. That, alone, makes this a four star review.
I had the salad bar first. A simple bar that was well stocked and had large plate sizes. The bleu cheese dressing was what I like best.... chunky and tart. Everything was fresh.
I moved on to fried chicken breast and okra with cream gravy. The okra was pretty good but a little overdone. The chicken was grilled, then batter fried. I think the seasoning could be better, but it wasnt bad.
The food was ok. Not fantastic. But good. For the price, it wasn't spectacular. But I would visit again to try other dishes before sayong its too pricey. If you value good service and a feeling that the staff really want you to be...
Read moreIt was my first time trying this place. I was impressed with the ambience of this place. It was very rustic and had a homely feeling to it. I had a party of two and we had a short wait before we were seated. I looked at the menu and I observed that they offered numerous options. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger basket and the chicken fried steak. My meal came with the bean bar and the other meal came with the salad bar. I tried the ranch style beans and the pinto beans. The ranch style beans were decent and the pinto beans were bland. The salad bar was decent with various options. When the food arrived, the burger was a decent size with home cut fries. The meat was seasoned well with fresh vegetables. The chicken fried steak was bland but the mashed potatoes and gravy added flavor to the entree. All in all, the food was decent for a decent price. I was very pleased with the bluebell ice cream that was complimentary. I do have to say that it would have been nice for our waitress to explain what came with the meals instead of letting us fend for ourselves. We read the reviews from other diners to fully understand what we were able to get. I would rather eat somewhere else to get a...
