Cape Charles has a surprising amount of restaurants for such a little harbor town. And boy, did we pick the right place tonight! It's a little place with a big personality, and spectacular food.
My husband and I first shared a dozen Laughing King oysters. They are a family-owned oyster farm on the Atlantic Coast. The farm states "Our oysters have a level of salinity that is high but not overwhelming, with a sweet, buttery flavor and a finish reminiscent of the open ocean.". A wonderful description and every bit true. They are harvested daily from the Chesapeake Bay. Some of the best oysters I have ever had. I kept the shells to use as nautical decor in my home.
We then ordered bowls of chicken lemon orzo soup. Oh my goodness. Does my mother cook for AJ's??! If you are a soup lover, especially chicken, you must order this. The chicken was soft and extremely tasty, like roast chicken. Plenty of orzo, carrots, and some spinach as well. In a rich flavorful broth. A small pinch of buttery mozzarella cheese melted on top. Perfection.
I ordered the pork ribeye. Yes, I said PORK. If you are a steak lover, this dish will turn you to pork. My goodness, meaty, buttery soft, and flavor galore. But not the geaviness of a steak. What a treat. The rice pilaf was good as well. The green beans were good, but a bit underdone. That is just personal preference, so no points taken away. They were, however, crisp and very fresh, as was everything.
They had live music, which we also enjoyed. With the great atmosphere, the music, the food, and the friendly and efficient staff at AJ's, this was one great night out. If you are ever in Cape Charles,...
Read moreWe are striking out big time in this town of restaurants. Going to grocery shop & cook all our meals for the remainder of our vacation. You should too. Seriously, don’t spend $80 plus on a meal for a family of a 4. You’ll be so disappointed on your waste of money. I saw our server twice during dinner. Had to ask the tables next to us waitress when we saw her to go find ours. Waited 40 or so minutes for our meal and another 25 min or so for a beer. It’s ridiculous. Then I got up myself to go get the boxes from the server stand & walked to the host stand to pay because we were so tired of waiting!!! If you’re a restaurant that wants to charge the pricing you’re charging you need to do better with the service. You should Make sure your paying customers are happy! Our friends at the campground wanted to come into town to eat too & we advised them just save your money & forget it. Won’t be back. The server we had knew she messed up & never once apologized. An “I’m really sorry for your wait” would have changed my attitude at...
Read moreWhere do I start! The vibe, atmosphere and staff were on point. We had Raven for a server and she was amazing with recommendations and entertaining my toddler. :) The decor is beautiful and very clean. You can tell the owners take great pride in this establishment! We started with apps. We ordered chicken wings and cauliflower bites. Hands down best chicken wings we’ve ever had. I am picky about wings but these had the perfect crisp to them without being over cooked. We will get these everytime we go! Both flavors were so tasty! The cauliflower bites were also crispy and great! My 3 year old loved them. For entrees we ordered the Tazewell chicken, pork chop and scallops. All were excellent! My personal favorite is the scallops, pan seared perfectly with a creamy corn and bacon base. Not a porkchop fan but I did have a bite and wow it was so juicy and cooked perfectly. So excited for this new addition to Cape Charles and can’t wait to go back and try some...
