Update -- tried the beef ramen and cannot recommend it. It was really mediocre and didn't hit the spot. Flavor was lacking, but portions were ok. Egg and beef were definitely overcooked, and the tofu ans fish balls were flavorless. Also got the crispy kale, and found the batter/oil to kale ratio was way off, and the parmesan cheese was pretty weird on it. Unlike other visits, I left this time feeling unsatisfied with the food and the price I paid for it. Everything else I've had here has been great, but clearly ramen isn't their forte.
Fuji Sushi (sharing the space with Golden Fu Wah) is AMAZING. I've been going back pretty frequently to Golden Fu Wah since I discovered it, and genuinely consider it the best Chinese food I've ever had. On my last visit, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they now offer a Japanese menu! I got the oyakodon (chicken and veggies over rice) and it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were spot on, tasting like a cross between comfort food and gourmet cooking. This place really hits the sweet spot in terms of flavors, quality, and value for the portions you get. Not to mention how sweet Jenny is. I feel like I'm at my grandma's house every time I visit with how caring and attentive she is to her customers, and how she helps me get over my indecision when I don't know what to order--the menu IS quite extensive. Definitely looking forward to trying out the rest of the new Japanese menu, especially the ramen and curry. Do your soul and taste buds a favor, and get yourself over there! And bring cash if you want to save a...
Read moreMy partner and I went here yesterday for the first time and had a wonderful experience all around. Food was amazing, service was fantastic. This will be our new regular sushi spot :)
The waitress who helped us was prompt and sweet. The sushi chef was awesome, he excitedly came out to tell us about the fresh fish they had just imported from Japan. One of them was an Opal eye.... yellowfin tuna.. and I don't remember the other but holy shit! It was so good! I normally don't care for Sushimi but what he prepared was amazing. The homemade soy sauce and wasabi are a MUST (in the picture). It was presented much prettier, my partner and I had already dug in before I took the picture. We had the fire cracker roll and dragon roll and it was unparalleled compared to other sushi places I have been to in Santa Cruz.
We were on our walk with our newborn. We're reluctant to go places without outside seating because we don't want her to catch a bug, and the staff was beyond accommodating. They set us on their back patio. (I'm assuming this is their break area, I can't confirm if they have actual outside seating available for dining).
I don't want to write a novel here, but I want to finish this by saying that the first thing I loved about this place was seeing the student deals they offer when I walked in. It's clearly meant for high school students as the time window is 30 minutes, but I love that they support their community so PLEASE!! Come here and...
Read moreIf you're looking for authentic and delicious ramen and sushi in a relaxed atmosphere, Fuji is your spot. Here’s what keeps me coming back.
First up, the Ko ramen, which now haunts my dreams—rich, creamy, and deeply satisfying broth, golden brown melt-in-your-mouth pork, and tooth-sinkable noodles, served in one of those huge ceramic ramen bowls. Simple,, well executed chicken yakitori—crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, with a subtly sweet and savory sauce. And of course, the sushi, which hits the spot with consistently fresh fish.
You can tell that the owner, Jackson puts his heart into this place. A great example of his dedication is his house-made soy sauce, dark, complex, and perfectly complementing the sushi.
Highly recommend this place when you’re craving...
