Not the place for in store dining unless you have no other options. Not an especially bad dining area, just kinda depressing like most fast food joints. Take it home and gorge on delicious chicken in private, and in peace. The crew seems especially great though.. there's an older lady who really rocks front of house, and in keeping the kitchen hustling along, and a Hispanic guy who's super polite and on top of it. The food is great.. original recipe all the way, but the crispy strips are also fire. Make sure to grab some of the Colonel's hot sauce too, it's like Tabasco ought to be. 9 out of 10. It's sad that Santa Cruz chased away the westside KFC, but it's not surprising. This Capitola location is the only KFC around, so do support it.. because once it's gone, you will miss it. Oh yeah, and the Coleslaw is amazing. There's a $30 deal going on which includes a bucket of original recipe, crispy strips, mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, biscuits, and fries. It's amazing to be able to feed a family of 4 with leftovers, for $30.. McDonald's is like $15-18 for a meal per person nowadays, and it sucks. Burger King is the same now too. Oh yeah, and, this is also an A&W, so you can get yourself a root beer float, in a sad waxed cup.. no more frosty mugs or drive up dining like back in the day on Ocean St. It's sad. No more drive up, drive through, or drive in movies anymore...
Read moreThere are no words to describe just how....terrible the food was. Absolutely, gag-inducingly awful.
This was supposed to be my (adult) daughter's birthday meal - KFC mashed potatoes with gravy has been her favorite since she was a little girl, & I've ALWAYS loved their coleslaw- since I was a little girl. Chicken, biscuits, fries - from Maine to California, KFC has always been an easy choice for a 'special' meal, no matter where we've been across the country.
But this time? Wow.
We'd stopped in on the way home after a fun day out, ordered at the counter, waited for it, then took it home to eat.
We each took one bite, & had to throw every bit of it away. (Even remembering makes me shudder- it was THAT BAD!)
Not a single piece - not even a FRENCH FRY was edible.
Spoiled? Refrigerator/freezer/stove not working? Left out for ages til it went bad, then served anyways?
I honestly have no idea.
The only thing I DO know is we won't be going back to this location. Ever.
It's made me hesitant to go to any other KFC in the area, as well, because if quality standards have been allowed to plummet THIS FAR at one location, it's likely an issue at the management level.
I'd rather go elsewhere than take a chance on getting completely inedible food again, or worse,...
Read moreUpdating my review because my last order they failed to deliver like half of it and it was an incredibly sad way to end my incredibly sad day so I'm deducting a star.
I don't recommend ever getting kfc tendies or sandos just get bone in & popcorn chickies. Also they need to bring back cornbread. They DO have it at some locations, although it is mostly seasonal in summertime. I'd be very pleased if they did that here. For sides I like the fries but not as much as wedges. Wedges made them stand out from the others. Now they're just one of the other of millions of chicken shops. And I like coleslaw. I do not like anything else. Blessed be that they gave me all my sauces butter and honey with my last order I was a happy human. They gave me lemonade instead of sweet lightning though. Biscuits are yummy. 👍 I wish they'd offer the A&W menu on delivery...
