Wonderful new coffee shop in La Costa. The coffee is delicious and reasonably priced compared to other places. When you enjoy your coffee and food at the restaurant, they give you a real mug and plate which is a really nice touch. I had a cold brew and California burrito while my wife had a honey vanilla Latte and cheese Danish. They were all excellent. The cold brew was very smooth and not bitter at all. The burrito was huge, more than I could finish, but delicious with the salsa it comes with. The Latte was very tasty too and not too sweet, while the Danish was flaky and wonderful. Everything is house made there which is super cool. Give Ascend a shot, you won't be disappointed. Nice to support a local business in Carlsbad and San Marcos.
Updated March 30 - I ordered a large cold brew with light ice and got basically a cup full of ice with a few sips of coffee in it. See the new picture for how much ice was still in my cup after the coffee was gone. Disappointing with the cost and asking specifically for light ice. Hopefully it will be better...

But looking forward to the revamp of Restaurant Row that I think Ascend is tentatively planning to take a spot in. In the meantime, there is this new location in La Costa that is, of course, just as good as the original! Honestly and sincerely, this is some of the best coffee in San Diego, on par with places like Bird Rock, Mostra, and Archers Arrow. Literally, just try anything, especially if it has espresso in it. They’ve got some pretty tasty food items too. Avocado toast and chipotle breakfast burrito are my favorites. (Although, they need to start selling potato...
Read moreOver the years I have been on a constant search for good coffee through my travels to Rwanda, Italy, France, USA and learning along the way. Yesterday I was looking for a quick coffee and Ascend was the closest. The coffee here is brilliant, aromatic, you can taste the powerful roasted coffee taste, intense and full-bodied rich in roasted notes. A dash of milk gives a sweet softening to the overall flavours and just as fantastic without milk too. I was informed they use a blend of coffee beans being sourced from Columbia and Thailand. Dint try the food but its all made fresh by the owner
A must must...
