I have been enjoying El Pueblo Mexican Food for years. I started visiting when they had their first shop at the gas station in Cardiff. When they opened the restaurant near my home in Olivenhain, I was very happy and visited at least twice a month.
Fast forward a few years and I found that visiting the Carlsbad store always involved a long wait because the place had become so popular. Good for El Pueblo but bad for many customers. I tried their competitor a few blocks away and found that I preferred the flavor of the fish tacos from this place, (I think it is called Cotijas). The place is usually empty but their fish tacos tasted better and there was never a wait.
Yesterday, I wanted some fish tacos so I went to Cotijas but they were out of fish, (really?) As a backup, I went to my former favorite El Pueblo and was quite surprised.
There was no crowd. There was also a new menu which had doubled the price of the fish tacos and many of their other offering had increased as well. Bummer but $2 a taco still a reasonable price. I ordered four to split with my wife . We both were very disappointed.
The fish portions had been cut by at least 1/3rd. They were served with almost no white sauce and the tacos were almost flavorless.
This shop always doubles up on the tortillas. Cotijas only uses one tortilla per taco. My wife and I prefer the lighter version. This meal was basically lots of tortillas with a small portion of fish and some cabbage. Not what they used to serve.
So here is my review. The price has doubled. The formal excellent flavor has gone away. The tacos are heavy and flavorless. They are probably less healthy due to the extra tortilla and because they skimped on the sauce, they were quite dry.
Until this restaurant fixes this problem I will be eating elsewhere. I would send this review to the restaurant management but they do not offer a way to communicate on their website.
El Pueblo used to have the best budget fish taco in the areas. Now, at least based on my meal yesterday, they are at the bottom...
Read moreDuring my recent visit to El Pueblo Mexican Food, I had the opportunity to try the Super breakfast burrito, and overall, I found the experience to be satisfactory. Previous visits have been the fish tacos and chili relleno. Here's a breakdown of my visit:
I ordered the Super breakfast burrito, which came filled with beans, eggs, cheese, and bacon, hold the potatoes. The burrito was wrapped in a fresh, thin, and perfectly toasted tortilla, which was delicious. However, despite requesting chipotle sauce and paying extra for it, unfortunately, it was not included in my order, which was a bit disappointing, especially considering the additional cost.
In terms of pricing, the burrito was $14, and I chose to leave a $2 tip. While the price seemed reasonable for the size of the burrito, the oversight with the sauce sucked.
The customer service at El Pueblo Mexican Food was adequate but not great. Despite the lack of other patrons in the establishment, the service felt hurried, impersonal and rushed which would makes sense at lunch but I was the only one there and it was 9:30 am.
On a positive note, the restaurant itself was clean and well-maintained, and parking was easily accessible, which added to the convenience of the visit.
In conclusion, El Pueblo Mexican Food offers decent fare in a clean and accessible location. While the Super breakfast burrito was enjoyable, the oversight with the sauce and the somewhat indifferent customer service left something to be desired. While I wouldn't necessarily make a special trip to visit this establishment, it could serve as a convenient spot for a quick and decent meal if...
Read moreJust like everyone who is a local to this area and a native to Esco I have had my fair share of Mexican food. In general with most places you at eat you always have to check your order. My wife is a vegetarian. They wrote veggie on the carnitas burrito. Good thing she did not actually swallow it. I have also experience racism towards me in my life and don’t think this is the case but it pisses me off so much it makes me think of all the possibilities. Cook was probably busy, totally get it I mess up too, but this is a first and thought it might be prudent to call the cook out and maybe they won’t make the same mistake again, I mean you got one f…….g job, and you’re not the only Mexican place in town and certainly not the best. Another thing that comes to mind is they forced me to wear a mask when I came in maskless one time, what a bunch of sheep, that includes the owner, wow I bet they feel stupid now that the Covid 19 mRNA bio weapon is causing a lot of deaths, the conspiracy theories are not just theories anymore and whoever played along with the whole con job is not smart in...
