Grubby’s Poke & Fish Market — Restaurant in Carlsbad

I used to frequent this restaurant. It has changed a lot lately, and not for the better. The last two times I have been back the staff has provided mediocre service, inconsistent bowl preparation, and it honestly feels like they do not want to be there.

My visit this weekend was extremely disappointing as it was 20 minutes before closing and they were acting as if they had already closed. The food containers/selections on the line were already sitting on top of the counter. There was a line of people waiting to order but only one person behind the counter while two people were doing other things that seemed a little premature, including mopping the floors as if they were closed, and without adequate signage for safety, and taking out the trash cans from their holders to empty them and blocking walkways in the restaurant.

The manager can check the cameras from the restaurant to verify this risky behavior… Safety hazard much?!

I tried to respectfully alert the worker mopping to the hazard they were creating for people to potentially slip, especially people that have trouble walking or balancing. Without adequate and VISIBLE signs they are carelessly endangering patrons. Instead of saying they were sorry and stopping the mopping, they wanted to argue with me.

Keep in mind the restaurant was not closed yet. The mopping and trash emptying could have waited 15 minutes.

Seems like kids these days are more concerned with being righteous or getting off work early than actually performing their jobs and preventing safety hazards.

Liability risk to be in this restaurant with a careless work staff!

Needless to say I left without ordering food, because I can take my money elsewhere where I am treated with respect, in an efficient manner, and not like a burden for offering helpful feedback due to the workers creating liability risks...

So, I have tried a lot of poke places and this place has the most fresh fish and such a great selection of bowls! They also have fresh fish of the day, which I am excited to try next time I go in! They even have poke nachos! Which sounds amazing and I have not tried yet but look forward to trying next time I go in! This poke place is so fresh and different. I think everyone should try it! There is something for everyone, they even have organic tofu! Oh and the first scoop of avocado is free which is amazing cause everyone knows we have to get avocado! And their garlic pozu is a must on your bowl! I have to say, I honestly love this place and it is my new go to poke spot! There is a huge selection and so many options. Took me a little bit to see everything! I love the menu and they even have these great soda choices, the citrus hibiscus soda is amazing! I don’t even like soda usually! Also, the staff is so sweet and helpful with great options! Shout out to Eli and Sean for making my amazing bowl 🤗Great job to the owner creating this amazing...

Best poke in California! I’ve tried everything and anything in and around town and nothing come close to the quality, taste and freshness of this place. I usually order it to go, and have someone pick up my order and it never disappoints. I’m in love with this place. Actually love might be an understatement in this case. This place is hands down the best place you will go for Poke. On top of the amazing quality of food and freshness you have some incredibly amazing staff with some of the best customer service around. I had a chance to walk in the other day to pick up my order and man can I say they made us feel super welcomed. I love coming to a place where people have big smiles and incredible energy with a passion for what they are doing. Honestly if your opening another spot please let me invest. I’ve never had anything better. Best food...
