It's always exciting to see some of LA's best food places making a new home in San Diego and this new Red Chickz..... I've gotta say.... it's a game changer in the Nashville hot chicken scene here but they go beyond that too. It's places like this that make you realize Red Chickz cares about the craft, and places like Dave's Hot Chicken is just a cash grab.
Let's start with their signature Nashville hot chicken. The flavor hits you with that perfect blend of heat and spice, but what really sets it apart is the fresh, hand-breaded goodness. Every bite is a crispy, juicy delight - it's like a little taste of Southern comfort right here in Cali. It will confuse you why you haven't experienced eating chicken like this before, very unique experience.
But hold up, it's not just about chicken here. I tried their fish taco, and man, it was a revelation! The fish was perfectly seasoned and cooked, nestled in a soft taco with just the right amount of toppings. It's like a seaside trip in a bite.
Shrimp taco? Yes, please! These little beauties were packed with flavor, and the shrimp were cooked to perfection - not too rubbery, not too soft. It's a seafood lover's dream.
Now, let's talk about the cauliflower taco. I was skeptical at first, but wow, was I wrong! It's a veggie masterpiece, bursting with flavors and textures that'll make even the most devout carnivores pause for thought.
Cheese curds and potato wedges? These sides were no afterthought. The cheese curds were gooey and delightful, a perfect contrast to the crispiness of the potato wedges. Each wedge was like a mini flavor bomb - crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. And don't get me started about the corn ribs. That is such a clever idea and it tasted fantastic. In all honesty, I wanted to try every item on the menu but I was gasping for air towards the end at least I have so much more to look forward to try and eat.
The vibe of the place? Super chill and welcoming. Perfect for hanging out with friends/family or grabbing a quick bite that's miles away from the ordinary. It's even a perfect spot to grab a bite with a coworker during your lunch break!
The Red Chickz isn't just another Nashville hot chicken joint. It's a fusion of classic Southern cooking with a fresh, SoCal twist. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out. Trust me, your taste buds...
Read moreAbsolutely phenomenal experience at T From the moment I walked in, I could tell this place was something special. The vibe is upbeat and modern, with a clean, inviting atmosphere and friendly staff who clearly care about their customers. I was greeted with a warm welcome and genuine smiles — always a good sign when you’re about to dive into some comfort food!
Now, let’s talk about the star of the show: THE FOOD. I came here after hearing great things about their Nashville-style hot chicken, and wow — they did not disappoint. I ordered the hot chicken sandwich (medium heat to start off) with their signature sauce, and it was hands down one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. The chicken was incredibly juicy on the inside with the perfect crispy, crunchy coating on the outside. The spice level was just right — flavorful heat without being overwhelming — and their slaw and pickles added the perfect balance.
I also tried their seasoned fries and some of their loaded mac and cheese, and both were absolutely fire. The fries are crispy, golden, and perfectly seasoned. The mac and cheese? Creamy, cheesy, and topped with a generous helping of chopped hot chicken — definitely a must-try.
I appreciate that they have a spice level for everyone, from mild to reaper-level heat, and they’re not just throwing on heat for show — the flavor is rich and well-developed at every level. I’ve been to other hot chicken spots, but few take the time to balance spice and flavor like Red Chickz does.
The portions were generous, the prices are reasonable for the quality and portion size, and the service was top-notch. Staff checked in without being overbearing, offered suggestions, and even came around to make sure we were enjoying everything.
It’s also worth mentioning how clean and well-organized the space is — tables were spotless, the drink station was tidy, and the kitchen is open so you can see the care that goes into every order.
Whether you’re a hot chicken fan or just curious to try, The Red Chickz Carlsbad should absolutely be on your list. They’ve mastered that perfect combo of flavor, crunch, heat, and hospitality. I’ll definitely be back — and next time, I might brave a higher spice level!
Highly, highly...
Read moreThis place is mediocre, don't waste your time and money here. Let me explain in 5 short points.
1.) Walking in there first thing I saw was a worker pouring a milkshake with a beard and no beard guard. Right off the bat lacking professionalism. Would you like some hairs in your shake? No? I thought so.
2.) I ordered out 2 sandwiches. When I got my order and checked it, one of the boxes was ripped and both not labeled. I asked them to label it and told them the order of the sandwiches in the bag. The worker labeled one of them. When I got home I gave my fiancé the sandwich she ordered (medium heat) and it ended up being my order (most spicy option) and ruined the meal for her because she couldn't enjoy it.
3.) The chicken portion is a joke 13$ for breading and actual meat the size of a tenderloin. The advertise a jumbo sandwich but what's funny is the Dave hot chicken "sliders" has more meat than this places "full size sandwich."
4.) If you are spice connoisseur like myself and are looking for an actual sandwich with heat, the spiciest sandwich is a joke. I found it to be extremely oily and salty. If you are not used to the heat or are sensitive to it, it will be spicy to you.
5.) What I thought was the most hilarious was their gimmick about their sandwich being the crunchiest. It's crunchy because it's all breading!
If you were considering this place it's best to avoid. Go to Daves hot chicken or chick-fil-a and get a bigger and better sandwich for 1/2 the price!! How they have maintained 5 stars is beyond me.
Whoever owns this restaurant I hope this is your sign to do a food...
