My husband and I searched endlessly for someone to cater pizza to our wedding - obviously something out of the norm, so we knew it was going to be a unique ask! We had multiple talks with the staff about our vision with the pizza, and the head chef, Melissa had invited us to attend a tasting at The Sixpence (our venue) where they would make the pizza just for us! We thought this was amazing, and were excited how far S&S went out of their way to accommodate us. One of the main points was that we wanted pizza cooked on site, not delivered to the venue. On the evening of the tasting, they brought the oven on site and cooked us homemade pizza which was absolutely to die for. We were so impressed, we decided to move forward with them almost the next day.
However, on our actual wedding day, the opposite occurred. Cocktail hour went well with the service and appetizers. However, our DJ announces we are going to start releasing tables for dinner, and our planner comes up to us to tell us our pizza was not at the venue yet. I was completely in shock considering we had discussed the oven being brought on site and the pizza cooked on site, to then find out when tables are being released that S&S decided to cook the pizza in their own kitchen and deliver to our venue. Not only was the food not fresh and it was not communicated to me that our food was just going to be delivered to the venue, they were 15 minutes LATE with our food. Therefore, we had to leave the bar open, as there was nothing else for our guests to do while we waited for their team to show up with our food. In addition, after they show up late, our head table gets released to go get our food first, and I then see our nicely printed menu signs flipped inside out with terrible handwriting on them from the S&S staff. The staff was so late and disorganized, that they were in disarray when they showed up, completing missing the correct signage we had printed, as well as the gluten free meals for our guests. Our gluten free/dairy free guest never received her plated meal we paid for, so she was only able to eat the salad bar.
In addition, due to S&S being 15 minutes late, after our cake cutting, they never served our cake. The head chef blamed this on us not having plasticware to serve the cake on, however we had paid for plastic plates for both cocktail hour and to serve the cake on. Therefore, our expensive, Cake Bake cake my husband and I did a tasting for and thoughtfully designed was never eaten and went to waste. Tragic.
My mother went to their office to pickup the flatware the next morning as she had to return it to the rental company the next day in Ft. Wayne, and when she showed up to get the totes, the worker had told her they only had one tote and did not have two. My mother continued to tell them we had dropped off two totes with flatware, but S&S told her it was either lost or still at the venue. They had loaded 80+ lbs of flatware into one tote, and expected my mother to carry this all by herself. Not to mention, we then had to tell the rental company we lost one of their totes due to the lack of care from S&S.
After days passed and I brought up all of my concerns to Melissa (head chef), she made every excuse in the book for why the food was late, why the GF/DF meal was missed, why the oven wasn't brought on site, etc. There was no accountability taken. We understood this was a unique ask, but we turned down 5-10 vendors who said they did not have the capacity to cook on-site and could only deliver pizza from their kitchen. We respected each of them for their honesty up front, and wish S&S would have done the same. We understand catering a 200 person event is a large ask, but at the end of the day, we did not receive the service we paid for, and Melissa was not understanding of that, and did not make the situation right.
To make matters worse, one week after our mishap, the S&S team posted an extremely distasteful video about being on time to events - talk about...
Read moreFrom start to finish, the entire team at Sweet & Savory made the catering for our wedding so effortless and wonderful. Communication with their staff is prompt and efficient, and they helped me stay on top of logistics as the event got closer. They worked with us to customize our menu in little ways that reflected our taste as a couple and were great at picking place settings that would suit our theme. Then when our budget needs changed, S&S worked with us to find the perfect balance that would allow us to keep our menu intact. Most importantly, the food was AMAZING. Our vegan and vegetarian guests were thrilled to have a flavorful option that met their needs. And NO dry wedding chicken here! So often you hear about the actual buffet being less impressive than the tasting -- not with these folks! Our food was delicious!! And the staff working our event were so friendly and attentive! We had a wonderful gentleman who checked in with us personally multiple times, offering refills or extras, even carrying our plates to our sweetheart table for us so my husband could focus on helping me get situated at the table (big dresses are hard to manuever). We will be recommending S&S to anyone who will listen, for events big and small. Absolutely spectacular service, cannot say enough...
Read moreI could not recommend Sweet and Savory Catering enough for a wedding caterer! We struggled so hard in the process of finding a good caterer who could work with our venue, a large guest list, excellent service, and great food. Once we met with the team at Sweet and Savory we immediately knew they were going to be great! Abigail and her team were innovative, communicative, and so supportive throughout the whole wedding process. Abigail was so flexible with me as I was an out of town bride and she helped make sure I felt on top of tasks and could do as many items in person as possible! For our wedding, everything was spectacular! The food was such a hit from ALL the guests! Our appetizers were incredible, the main courses were so great (and we had a dish that wasn't traditionally a part of their large wedding plated menu), and the late night snack was a huge hit! I am so happy that I could be confident in my catering team going into the wedding and even happier that the reviews from guests have not stopped about Sweet and Savory! Abigail and her team were nothing short...
