Bob's Diner — Restaurant in Carnegie

Very disappointed in the service I received today. I come to Bob's for the good food, but today I had a takeout order and when I went to pick it up, the service was awful. First, the restaurant was packed and there was a group of 4 waiting to be seated, nobody was at the front register. I went up to the counter where I could see a take-out order and there were two waitresses talking to each other. I told them I was there for a pickup order and they told me to go to the front counter. They continued to talk to each other and after 3 times of me telling them that nobody was at the front counter, one of the waitresses in an annoying tone said, "someone is screaming nobody is at the front counter". At that point I noticed at least 10 people who would appear to be the wait staff all behind the counter just talking to each other. Nobody was helping out customers by refilling drinks, etc. they were just standing around.

When someone finally went to the front and asked me what I was there for, they brought back the exact same takeout bag that was sitting in front of the two waitresses that I first encountered. If either one of them would have stopped their conversation, which clearly was personal, and actually helped me, they would have been able to hand me the takeout order that was mine, that was sitting right in front of them. They seemed annoyed that I bothered to interrupt their conversation.

Once I opened up my order, there were no utensils/napkins. This should not come as a surprise to me as the same wait staff that is supposed to be taking care of the order, couldn't be bothered to make sure that was included.

I am glad that I did not leave a tip because the service was horrible.

Do better Bob's Diner, your food is excellent, service is...

On July 3rd about two hours from closing time, I stopped by for the first time and had the most awesome waitress, service and food. In fact it was SO GOOD that I went back the next day around lunch time. BUT not only I walked into three waitresses having a very tense conversation with one another... when I saw my waitress of the night before and asked if she would serve me again, another girl sarcastically said "I am your waitress". I placed my simple order of avocado toast and Pepsi and went outside to seat. The waitress handed me the most awful watery burnt toast with scraps of avocado and smashed little tomatoes. It looked gross and there was not enough to cover the second half of the toast. I asked her what is this. She explained why it was soaking wet and did not offer to have it redone or be kind to me with my disappointment. She expected me to just eat that questionable and dirty order. So I left. Not only was the cook horrible on that day, but that waitress is the reason I will never go there again. I went back excited to see the place again, and left feeling treated less than human. She did not care about the customer at all; she was condescending. Her and that cook should not work there... They take the place down and the customer's morale...

Let me say that Bobs is one of our favorite places to eat. That is why this review is so hard to write. First we got seated and waited 10 minutes to get a server to acknowledge us. Jodi walked past us twice and took the food order for the table next to us before going back to put the order in, and then returned to us for our drink order. After giving us drinks she said she would be right back...another 10 minutes later she took our order. Our food was good (my eggs were not over easy, my husband's steak was not medium rare). We never saw Jodi again after the food was delivered. The busser got us coffee after we flagged her down (did not see Jodi), another server checked us out so we could leave the restaurant (still no Jodi). (And yes dine-and-dash came to our mind, but no) I left no tip, I was that person. I was a server most of my life. You get tipped for the effort you put in. Advice for Bob's servers: Go back and review the basics Greet people and get their drink order within 2 minutes Once a guest has a drink they can wait while you get orders from the other tables in your section. If you are busy, leave the check on the table when you check back to see if the eggs and...
