This has to be by far one of the worst Desi establishments I have ever gotten food from in all of Chicago. I honestly don't know how in the world they have good reviews. Their food was absolutely disgusting - raw flavor less mush for chicken mince kabobs and the worst tasting rice ever. It looked like a takeaway box of old leftovers. I should have cooked at home instead of wasting my money here. The worst part is the customer service is absolutely terrible. When I spoke to the manager about my horrible food experience - he argued on the phone with me for 30 mins back and forth and was extremely rude and unprofessional. All so he could save a few bucks - keep my money and your bad food and service J Beez - you have lost my business and recommendation forever.
Also, in response to the so called owner's comments. Just because the food is supposed to be Turkish does not mean the food should be flavorless nor does it mean your business should be handled unprofessionally. How is giving a honest review of a restaurant be bullying and harassment. My right to free speech allows me to provide a honest review of my true experience. I have frequented many restaurants and not all are good and not all are bad. I have paid full price for all my meals, and as a customer I have the right and duty to offer a honest review. I think this establishment has a problem with honesty and constructive criticism. Sorry - I am not being paid to write you a false positive review which may be rampant online. Also, I find it interesting that the owner has an issue with one bad review of mine when he has a plethora of good reviews - right? Why is my bad review bothering you so much?
Another matter, just because I reviewed other establishments along with yours does not mean my experiences and reviews are false. Anyone who is a restaurant goer and appreciative of honest reviews can see that. If anyone is bullying and harassing it is the owner of this...
Read moreNice little Turkish restaurant tucked away in the far corner of the lot, next to the Goodyear tire store. It is easy to miss this place because of the small storefront sign and the fact that the view is blocked by a giant building.
The interior is plain. No music or central heating. Just portable room heaters and food pictures on the wall. Plenty of seating available. I think I only saw one person running the restaurant. He is very nice and welcoming.
I ordered the chicken kabobs lunch special ($10), which came with rice, two pitas, a side of salad, hummus, garlic sauce, and hot sauce. Water costs an extra fee. Food came freshly cooked and steaming hot to my table.
Chicken breast is well seasoned. It was almost borderline dry but the char adds some nice flavor. Best eaten with the rice, since the seasoning itself can be overpowering. Rice is plain but cooked al dente.
The side salad is fresh and dressed lightly with olive oil and herbs. No strong flavors noted. Light and refreshing.
Hummus is very good. It comes with olive oil and an olive. The flavor can be described as creamy, smoky, and a slight bit of tang. A very good palate cleanser.
Pitas are warm, soft, and chewy. Exactly what you want to stuff your food in.
The included sauces are a delight. Both are tangy and dip worthy. The hot sauce is mildly hot, full of flavor and complements the dish well. I wish I could bring a bottle of each of these sauces home, because they are that good. Same with the hummus.
Overall, I do recommend this place, and left feeling satisfied. For the price, I do wish there was more salad and hummus. Takeout might be the way to go until it gets...
Read moreOk. Called in just before they closed (covid hours) which is not 7:30 PM as the website claims or 9 PM as Google claims. It's 8PM. He was nice enough to take my order. So, my experience with Middle Eastern food is pretty vast. The restaurant itself is a little on the hole in the wall side (not one of those marble wall to wall joints). While I was waiting for food, someone laid down a mat and began evening prayers, can't get more authentic than that.
Considering this was end of day, the food was great. Rice is basmati (thankfully not parboiled jasmine) and it was not parboiled or mushy and well separated (notice I started with the rice, the most important part!). The Beef and Lamb Shish Kabob has a great tenderness and good moisture, done on a flat skewer like it should be. They add red pepper flakes, which is tasty. Could use more lamb and more other spices. The Spicy Chicken Vegetable Shish Kabob is likewise tender, moist and done on a flat skewer. The Chicken Kabob took the gold though. Marinated grilled chicken breast sliced into bite sized pieces against the grain, they were slightly charred, moist and tender. Did not get to try the Baba Ganoush as I was served hummus. Hummus is very heavily tahini laden with a bitterness that hints of brine from kalamata olives. The chickpeas are creamy like they are from canned (but could also be just blended and very cooked chickpeas). Overall I would return. Food is good. Owner is friendly. Quantities were generous. Hot sauce is hot. Zabiha Halal for...
