A lot of the problem here was the young woman working behind the counter. She was rude, quiet to the point where it seemed intentional (we could hear the older woman serving other customers better than her), and when I had to go back to check on a coffee order she all but threw the creamer at me from behind the window. It really has been a very very long time since I've had such abysmal customer service. It was the kind of experience that leaves a dark mark on your day.
The key lime empanadas were weird with a filling texture similar to glue. My kid reports that the jello was good so I guess that's a win.
The breakfast tamales were fine. A standard tamale with an egg on the side (not on top as advertised). We ordered chorizo and got beef.
The atmosphere was probably tainted a bit by the young woman. The wait was very long. Especially for what is essentially heating up a tamale and putting an egg on it. I think it would have been nice otherwise. When we came in to scope it out the night before it was lovely.
I'd skip this place. Reyes Market down the street and around the corner is friendlier, cheaper, has more things, and has a lovely...
Read moreI work in Carpinteria and often order lunch to go from several local restaurants. This was not my first time here and I was actually excited about trying their burritos. My coworkers and I decided to order during the avocado festival but still no excuse for the service I got(my coworker warned me about how rude they are and that she refused to order because of this). The menu is not up to date; the prices actually go up $3+ then stated on the menu online. I was surprised by the total (that I had to ask for) and was told the menu was not current AFTER I mentioned the prices online. The girl over the phone told me I didn’t have to order if I couldn’t afford it when I didn’t even mention it being too expensive!! She was rude, disrespectful, and overall bad for business. After I arrived and attempted to speak to the manager, I wasn’t given an apology or any kind of sympathy for the way I was treated. The food may be decent at best but the service is unacceptable and I will probably never return or...
Read moreSo, there I am walking down the street, minding my own business, when a waft of fresh bake goods wanders into my face. I cook almost see the steam coming out the door. I couldn't resist and soon found myself in a den of smells. I was immersed by the sight of baked goods, the aroma of fine breakfast burritos, and the chatter of customers who were oblivious to time's passing.
I had to try something so I asked for one of their bacon breakfast burritos with everything on it. It was nice to be able to choose what extras I felt would quench my hunger, but the need to go full force was undeniable. It took a few minutes for my entrée to meet my greedy hands. In fact, they overstuffed the tortilla so much they actually had to give me two burritos. What a site for a famished man such as I.
That first bite said it all. Home cooked, made with love, and a palette pleasing taste that never ended. Mm Mm Good, if you...
