Each semester I take my culinary students out to restaurants 3 of 5 months. This month they chose this new spot. I stopped by a few weeks prior to grab a menu which the owner said is a temporary menu. It was several pages and I thought...how much bigger can you make it?? It did NOT disappoint! Lamb chops, chicken, steak, Ramen and noodles among other things were all added! Our group got every starter (except the sampler because that was unnecessary). Don't judge! We are all foodies!! Lol EVERYTHING (well, except the little mushy crab filled fried puff things) was good! I am told they go really well with sake for those who partake. Maybe it was the texture or maybe we just compared it to the other things or maybe because we don't drink sake....Idk, try it for yourself. It may be fabulous.

One student thought her sauce was a bit too sweet but you can opt for the sauce on the side. I love sauces and each dish had its own. I love that there is a wow factor in the plate-up. I don't see that much on this side of town.

A big THANK YOU to the owners for welcoming us and chatting with my students.

Note: I went back 2 days later to try yet another menu item I was SO impressed. As I spoke to the wife owner, I learned about her passion for what she has put together in this space and like me...is not a fan of baking.

I shared that I'm scheduled to take students on Tour to Thailand soon and gained a wealth of information from her.

Note #2: There is no kids menu! Hear me out though...there doesn't need to be! There are so many menu items, you can piece together a kid's meal and maybe have leftovers. Example: the Chicken satay comes on skewers, fun to eat with the peanut dipping sauce if you want and a side of rice or veggies. Done!

I really appreciate them not throwing in fries and chicken fingers on the menu. Y'all! Come for a Thai experience and culture your children's palate. Please! This way, when they come to my culinary class in high school, they enjoy something more than fast fried foods and when we get into various cuisines they will look forward to tasting them. Thanks in advance..mini rant over.

I'm grateful for such good food and good people setting up just off the Square in Carrollton.

If you have not been yet, please, support. We must, if we want to keep quality spots around. It is worth a drive if you are in neighboring cities. There is something for everyone.

Lastly, I enjoyed the various dishes they used to display the food. I'm also a potter and got all kinds of ideas.

Favorite Dish: Snapper...Sweet, spicy, crunchy, balanced and great size especially if everyone is tasting.

Service was also great. My students were seeing a lot of what we discuss in class regarding FOH (front of the house). Ryan was great and Angelique also on my 2nd visit. Even others checked on us in...

From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Jason, the manager. He was so nice and welcoming, he introduced himself right away and even made some small talk with us. I think he was trying to figure out how we knew Kong, and when we told him Kong is like family to us, he seemed genuinely happy to hear it!

Jason let us know that our waitress, Averi, would be with us shortly, and honestly, she was such a sweetheart. Super attentive and kind, made sure our table was well taken care of the entire time.

The vibe at 202 Bangkok is definitely different from Thai Basil (which is still our absolute favorite). Thai Basil has a calmer, more dialed-in, Asian-inspired theme. it's more peaceful, intimate, and a little more traditional. 202, on the other hand, has more of a bar-forward, louder, young adult kind of energy. It’s got a modern, social atmosphere and so it really depends on what kind of night you're looking for. My family and I had a great time, and the food, whew, the food, it was absolutely delicious! I stayed with my usual go-to, the beef pho, which hit the spot as it always does. Mama ordered the green curry seafood, and my dad had the Pad Woon Zen (with beef and shrimp) he actually said it was the BEST he’s ever had! Mama and I were obsessed with the green curry. It was delicious and was packed with flavor and spice in the best way. I think almost every recipe with coconut milk just tastes better. For appetizers, we were delightfully surprised with the Bang Bang Shrimp that went fast! Lol. Mama enjoyed the spicy tuna tamaki, my baby ordered the lumpia (fried veggie egg rolls), and I went with the Bahamas Roll sushi. Everything was fresh, tasty, and beautifully plated.

202 did not** disappoint 👏from start to finish. It was a wonderful experience. All of our meals were flavorful and satisfying. We left full, happy, and already thinking about what to try next time! I already knew I was going to enjoy my first experience in 202 because of all the great meals I’ve had at Thai Basil. It’s honestly such a blessing to have two amazing restaurants ,each* with its own talented chef, holding it down in Villa Rica and Carrollton. That’s what I call divide and conquer! We’re lucky to have both spots...

Still working out the 4th night kinks but the food is excellent & the owner is going above & beyond! Definitely be back!!!!

if you can’t be understanding to new businesses as they work through the first few weeks, stay away. Our waitress told us she had cried multiple times tonight b/c of how people had spoken to her about delays. She was thanking US for being kind. These ladies & gentlemen were working hard. Our drinks were never even low, every single employee was friendly & accommodating. They were upfront on any delays. We only waited a few minutes to be seated on a Friday night with an event going on at the AMP.

The owner was rounding & thanking every person for their business & patience. He was so kind & welcoming. He can’t yet sale alcohol as he waits on permits, but he gave many of us a free beer native to Thailand to try since he can’t sale but wanted us to taste what he has coming. The one he chose for me paired perfectly with my entree & I don’t really even like beer!

We ordered 2 sushi rolls which were very good & fresh. The timing on these are slow, but again DAY 4! We both had soups that were AMAZING! I’m still thinking about the Thai Coconut Soup with Shrimp! Kent literally picked up his bowl to drink every drop of his soup! We also had 2 dinners from the Street Food menu that were top notch.

I really enjoy theThai Tea at the end of the meal. Zero need to dessert after drinking it! It reminded me of a wonderful butterscotch drink.

We pulled up the Carrollton Fooball game on Graddick & watched some Trojan Ball while we waited! Just be patient & this is gonna be a great option on the...

The green curry with tofu was a showstopper. The drunken noodle with chicken was equally as good. Your spice level options are 1 to 5. We ordered ours at 2 which was pleasantly just right. The atmosphere is open and inviting and there’s plenty of seating inside and out. The menu is expensive and has great starters like Som Tom “papaya salad“ or chicken Larb. We started with two ginger salads that had an exceptional homemade ginger salad dressing. The greens were fresh, which enhanced the flavor of the bowl. Milady ordered the Highlands 41 Chardonnay, which she immediately sent back describing it as stump water. When we returned home, we discovered it was still on our bill, even after she went back, spoke to the bar and ordered the Bravium Chardonnay. *** The big turn off for me at 202 Bangkok Street Food, are the menus. The menus are tattered, torn and staples are gone. The ones that we were handed, had food on them with pages sticking together! I honestly felt like I needed to wash my hands after handling the menu. If they are that bad, go to Kinko’s and print some new ones for crying out loud! Does anyone in management even see this? This is a dealbreaker to hand me a nasty menu and expect me to order from it and then think the kitchen is clean. However, Milady wanted to stay, and the food ended up being well prepared. We’ll be back because the food is that good but hopefully when you get some new menus.
