Dyson Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Carrollton

Just took a quick lunch break to eat my leftovers from dinner last night. I met a few friends up at Dyson Seafood and Chicken in the "old Kmart Burger King" building. I had already heard it was good eatin', so I'm glad I got invited because I'm bad about putting things off and it might have taken me a while to actually try it otherwise.

Pretty good, y'all! They, as the name indicates, have a lot of seafood and chicken, but there's also things like steak and sandwiches. I had a shrimp po-boy with a side of deep fried brussel sprouts (just $11). I know I was just talking about eating healthier, but when I heard fried brussel sprouts, I couldn't help myself. They were delicious, especially dipped into their homemade remoulade sauce.

And speaking of homemade- Almost everything is from scratch. I didn't try one, but their jalepeno poppers are even made in house, not out of a bag from Sysco. So, that said, don't go try it when you're in a rush. You're gonna have some time to sit and chat before your food makes it to you.

Here's their big thing, though. I have heard MULTIPLE people say that they have the best beignets east of NOLA, at least a couple of people have said they're better than Cafe Du Monde. I can't say for sure because I didn't have the first beignet on my NOLA visit, but I can tell you that I don't regret the $6 I spent on a splurge last night. They have all sorts of flavors to top them, so a couple of us got Cinnamon Toast Crunch ones, and a couple of us got Blackberry. I'm a sucker for blackberry flavored stuff. They were really good! Not biscuit beignets like Brown Dog, but traditional style.

I'll be going back when I have a little extra money to spend because I definitely want to try his crabcakes, and Shane said the fried chicken was delicious.

The only complaints really were this- one of my friends doesn't like sweet slaw, and his is sweet. And I've had better bread on po-boys before, but there was nothing wrong with the bread he used. Otherwise, we all enjoyed it.

And his staff (as well as Carlos himself) is great. Everyone was very friendly and we were well taken care of while we were there.

I was in the mood for trying a restaurant I have never tried before. There I was recommended to go to this spot, and for some reason this used to be a former Burger King 🍔 before it moved beside in 2022. Not sure why it had to move but I am glad this restaurant exists in Carrollton. The minute we came to this location was when our server got with us right away. I couldn't get her name but she was a very nice waitress and was very attentive during our order. I got the 1/3lb Burger meal that came with fries and a drink. The TVs were on and the choice of channels is amazing too. They also had a DJ going on and that was one of the best aspects or things that contributed to this restaurant very well. The burger was very delicious and tasted freshly made. The fries were golden crisp to perfection and the drink was never watered down. The place only had a couple of customers but this one deserves to be known more. Keep up the great work and whoever the owner is reading this, I hope you're proud that you got me as a customer because of how amazing your food and service is. I will come...

We went last Friday night. We had heard they were having some issues getting things off on the right track, so we wanted to give them some time before we tried them. My wife had the shrimp platter with onion rings and salad. I got the platter with fried catfish, fried shrimp, crab cake, french fries and cole slaw. We also ordered a side of hush puppies. We wait staff was friendly, but had her hands full of customers! The food came out in a strange order too! We got our entrees, but no salad, cole slaw or hush puppies...had to ask for it. Plus no cocktail sauce or catsup, we finally went to the counter and asked for it. Don't know how much experience the wait staff has - they were trying, but definitely need some training. Overall the food was very good! You get a reasonable portion for the price. This place has got to get better organized if it is going to make it - I hope they do, because the food and quality of the food is good!
