I work about a mile from downtown Carrollton and will often find myself downtown because I train dogs and myself and the other trainers are often looking for dog-friendly places to go and work on their commands.
I was invited here by an owner of one of my training dogs, Sadie. Sadly I had never been here despite me enjoying this type of food and it being feet away from another business I frequent often, 3 Nations Brewery.
We were immediately greeted by Luis, who ended up being our waiter. Since we had a dog in our party we sat outside. I had explained to him that I was a dog trainer and we were there to work on Sadie's issue she has with charging/lunging and barking at waiters. I wanted Luis to know what he was in for and he very quickly and honestly said, "okay. Cool." I told him he didn't have to worry about being hurt and he said he was all good and actually offered to help with the process. I gave him instructions on what he should do if Sadie lunged and he was all good with it.
It was lunch time on a Sunday and they weren't busy...we were the only people (idiots) outside...it was nearly 100 degrees and a little after noon! The lunch was me offering training advice for a client and after getting menus and drinks we didn't focus much on picking out our food (which I realized was/is rude). Luis showed up and brought a paper bowl and water for Sadie and kindly asked if we needed anything and wondered if we were ready to order. We weren't, but he was so patient and chill about all of it. He came out again and this time we weren't ready again AND Sadie decided to bark and lunge at him. He did exactly what I asked him to do and went out of his way so we could help Sadie. We did a few reps for the issue and I promised to order in 3 minutes.
3 minutes later we see Luis and we finally got to order (shrimp tacos for us both!) and continued discussing how to help Sadie. Luis retreated to the air conditioning to tend to others.
Another man, this one older and in non-worker clothes popped out and asked if we were okay. I got owner vibes and after asking if owned Tacos and Avocados, he admitted to being the GM. I immediately explained how great Luis was in regard to our situation and he was very happy. He thanked us for telling him and left us.
The food did not take long and was absolutely delicious! I stomped out every millimeter of my 3 huge shrimp-packed tacos and a bit of rice and was stuffed. I've never gotten shrimp tacos that had that many shrimp in them! They also has the most delicious cheese that made everything come together perfectly! It's clear they make their own rules here!
Luis kept an eye on us, refilling drinks and often being asked (and more than willing) to help Sadie by approaching us in different ways. I even had him give her treats backwards. He nailed everything!
It became clear that Sadie has serious reactivity issues with waiters. It was also clear that Luis was not the typical employee. He went out of his way to offer excellent service, and put in extra work by helping Sadie work on her reactivity issues. Believe me, this is not the typical response I receive in 90% of these cases.
While it's possible / likely this review reads more like it's centered on dog training, that's kind of my point! We went there to eat, yes, but because Luis is a great employee he made the entire experience way above average by finding a way to cater to us. He went out of his way to help us/me and that translated into an even better restaurant experience.
Honestly, you can't find an item on the menu here that isn't special and fresh. I hope you give it a shot the next time you're in the area...and do yourself a favor and if you pop by on the weekend, ask if Luis is working. I am sure he will go out of his way to prove why he he is a great waiter and make your visit that much better!
One last little detail...I hadn't used Sadie's name in front of Luis more than 3 or 4 times in the 90 minutes we were there. However, as we were leaving and saying goodbye, Luis made it a point to say,...

I walked in not knowing anything about this place. Love tacos and am obsessed with new vibes. This new vibe came to Texas November 2024 Fantastic! I walked in and was greeted warmly by a large crew of people trying new salsas and they were so kind and lively even invited me to try some. A very happy man I didn’t get his name.. let me seat anywhere I wanted, I picked a corner pocket to watch the action and still vibe the room. I picked outside gorgeous day music playing the in the background. Bella was my server absolutely FANTASTIC!!! She answered my questions and even gave some options so I was aware of the food I was requesting. I wasn’t going to drink but her description and her proud and likable demeanor of their amazing Margaritas took me in for the gulp and I found myself craving a Margarita. Delicious!! She came out and had mixed two of her favorites GREAT CHOICE!! Guava and She was so happy and pleasant and bragged about the dishes and the ownership. She said she loved her job and loved the people she worked with. Refreshing to see an employee not only love what she does and who she works with but show such a great example of hard-work and dedication to a company. Tacos and Avacado are so lucky to have her! Food was amazing who knew I would get full off of a avacado. It was a deep fried avacado that had pico, cilantro, some vegetables and carrot. Carrot was an interesting option but the pairing all together made a fantastic bite. The salad they offer at the beginning was soft and not too spicy though I prefer a little bit bigger of a kick delicious though. I got Queso which was on their Happy Hour all day Wednesdays! Sooo good creamy and thick like it should be. Topped with chorizo. Perfecto! This place is the place to be! It’s great for a cute couples night, drinks with friends and laughter with family. Delicious and very pleasant. I ended the night with a man named Bob who came over and he was fantastic! You can tell he loves his crew and team and Restuarant. I have to brag again! A lot of taco places have gone overboard knowing we love our tacos and they have done such a great job in keeping it classy and affordable to the community! College students and families! A great place to bring work events too!! Thank you guys will def be back!! Shout out to Bella if you get her tip her extra for being Amazing! Jackie the assistant manager and Kenny came out at different times to check on me!! What a great team!! Def made me feel welcome and want...
Read moreOverall good Mexican food in downtown Carrollton, with a few improvement suggestions.
Pros: Really good house frozen margaritas. I had the flight and the syrups they used to flavor were good. The chips and salsa were tasty, but the salsa did range to the sweeter side, which I didn’t mind. The quesabirria tacos were really well cooked and the portion was large. The consume that came with it was more oily than I’ve had before, but it still was good. The shrimp tacos were huge and really tasty. The Mexican yellow and white rices were nice. The churros with dulce de leche and chocolate dipping sauce were much better than most churros I’ve had in Texas, and are worth getting if you’re craving them.
Cons: The guacamole was really cold, which likely means that it’s made ahead (likely in the morning) and stored in a fridge for some amount of time. This wasn’t the best, and the flavor could have been a bit stronger. My first choice order was out of stock, which was fine and I pivoted to a second choice, but in my first choice I asked for no beans at all and they ended up on the plate when my second choice came. Not a huge deal, but worth mentioning since I can’t eat them. The margarita flight was good, but the syrups were not mixed in at all into the drink. They were sitting on the bottom and then the frozen mix was poured on top (see image). After taking my first sip, I realized I had to mix them myself which really should be done by the bar.
I’d come back for sure, but now I know what to order and...
