When it comes to Mexican dining, there ARE a couple standard expectations. Was the service friendly, how long did the food take to come out and quality of adult beverages; today, El Charro Avitia Mexican Restaurant really satisfied. We sat down to fresh hot corn chips hot out of the fryer, hot sauce and fresh flavorful salsa. Though, there was a minor hiccup to start (server changeover), our server Christian was professional, friendly and quickly made us feel welcome. We split a lunch Fajita and albondigas soup (Christian was kind and split that for us too, with plenty of meatballs, delicious); believe me when I say it was less than 8 minutes order to table and hot too. I’m a person that is not satisfied unless the soup is stove piping hot, I was not disappointed. The mangoanada margarita was the right combination to quench my thirst, fantastic!!! The chicken and beef were perfectly seasoned juicy (not dry), deep marinated smoky and melt in your mouth flavors, plenty of beans rice guacamole, pile of green chilies, onions and pico de gallo. Thank you Christian, best wishes and see you next time we’re in Carson City, NV.!!! Way to go!!!

My wife and my grandson are I had been shopping all afternoon and I have been craving Mexican food so my grandson recommended El Charro, he had been there with our son and said it was really good. What I liked right off was the Mexican decor and design of the restaurant, it felt like we were actually in Mexico. Trevor had the 2 cheese Quesadillas, my wife had the BBQ pork enchiladas and I had the 2 enchiladas meal, one chicken and one beef. These meals came with rice and beans, mine came with a House salad and there was a bowl of chips on our table with 2 dips. Our food was amazing, our server was pleasant and always present and like stated before, the restaurant itself made you feel like you were in Mexico. El Charo also has a nice bar and pretty good sized dining room with plenty of parking. Overall this was a nice experience, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to family and friends, and we will be back!!

The last time I went to El Charro Avitia would have been in about 1984 or 1985. I was just a kid. We moved away and although I've been back in Nevada for a long time, I have driven past it and thought to myself "You know I should really stop there and get a Mexican pizza." Today, I finally did! Although nothing in the restaurant looks dated, it still felt very familiar. Just as my parents my parents did the last time I was here, I ordered the Mexican pizza. I was overwhelmed with how huge it is! But when I bit into it and tasted it, the memory of having a meal with my parents as a young person came flooding back. How they've maintained such quality and even the same flavor for the last 40 plus years just blows me away. I'll be back at another time to try something else.

4 of us went in to eat dinner and all 4 of us ended up sick from some of the worst food we've ever had. Started right at the beginning with the drinks. My Iced tea was bad and GF's corona had something sickenly sweet around the bottle top like something was spilled or rubbed on it. The soup 2 of us had had no taste. The cheese that was used on all 4 meals was the melted generic shredded taco cheese with that nasty pre-processed aftertaste. The taco salad was made with store bought salad mix that was wet and limpy. The rice was store bought that tasted stale. It's like all the food was store bought stuff that they had let expire on the shelf. We were only able to eat 1/4 of the food and had to leave because we were getting nauseous. Shocking for me since myself and one other in our group have cast iron stomachs and can pretty much eat anything without getting sick. At least the water and the chips were edible. We were offered a discount on our next meal but there's no way we'll go back to this place. Oh and it used to be a nightclub and we noticed that the carpet was sticky and had the slight "rancid spilled beer" smell. Come on people, least you can do is replace the carpet.

Used to be a decent place but has...

I really want to love this place because it's SO close to our house. However, it's just okay. I ordered huevos con chorizo the other night. I was searching for some comfort food and it's such a simple thing to make, or so I thought. Beans and rice were good as always. But the chorizo... It had very little flavor. It tasted like mildly seasoned ground beef stirred in eggs. I thought this was a Mexican restaurant? 🤔 I thought it would have some spice. 😋 The ground beef I make for quick weeknight tacos has more flavor, and I use about half the seasoning I should to appease my husband's taste buds. Anyhow, it was so very mild. It tasted like something I would give to a toddler. I think I would have been happier eating my beans and rice as a burrito. I'm sure we'll be back because, like I said, it's so close to home. I guess I just wanted something with a little more punch. Heck, I'm thinking the chorizo sold at Costco down the street is more what I was looking for. It's more what I'm used to. I will definitely try something else...
