The Original Steak & Rib House — Restaurant in Cartersville

We recently moved to Cartersville and were introduced to Original Steak & Rib; which quickly became one of our favorite placed to dine. The food is fantastic. Prime Rib melts in your mouth. The Mac & Cheese is absolutely some of the best I've ever had. The burgers are fantastic!

HOWEVER: The service is less than stellar. Of the roughly 7 times we have eaten in at Original Steak & Rib, only ONCE have we had what we consider good service. Every other time the service is just plain bad. They always forget to bring some part of the meal out. The wait time on getting appetizers and food out to the table are way too long and the servers rarely check in for drink refills or if you need anything else.

Our most recent visit, on Memorial Day evening, we arrived about 7:55. We ordered half an onion ring loaf and each ordered a burger. I ordered the Mountain Burger, add bacon. My partner ordered the Original BBQ Burger, which is supposed to come with BACON but did not. What was really irritating is that after 40 minutes, I finally had to go find our server and ask where our burgers were ... and there was only one other couple in the place!

There seems to be a lack of management keeping tabs on the servers and checking in on the guest.

If you are looking for good food and adult beverages and do not mind dealing with lackluster service, this is a good place. However, if you are out for entertaining company or out of town guest, you may want preface the visit as I do "the food is good, the service sucks".

3/25/23: Since S&R management apparently have blocked me from posting another review: I am just going to edit my review from 3 years ago. We decided on a last minute to head to Steak & Rib for a steak. The fiasco of poor management and lack of customer focused staff are running this place into the ground. While the food is still very good, the lack of service and attention to customers has not changed. When we arrived, there were only 3 other small parties ahead of us, the so-called host was less than personable and seems to be irritated that there were people waiting to be seated. When asked about wait times, she just shrugged anyone that asked off and walked away. There was no wait list, it it was just “will seat you when we can”s. We should have left then, along with the two other parties that walked out after not getting any reasonable response from the server or the manager. We decided to stay, and a nice couple let us know that there was an open booth on the bar area and it was first come. So we decided to sit there. The bartender/server was good, considering that she was having to work the bar and handle the 5 tables inside the bar area. The table next to use, and who had place their order before we did, never got their food and finally had to leave due to having been there over 90 minutes and had other places to be. This is no way to run a business and keep repeat customers. We love to support local owned establishments, however, we will no longer support S&R. There are many other eateries in Cartersville that are much better in good, atmosphere and service. ...

We were there centenary my daughters graduation. We have been there a few times before and knew it was the best place for the occasion. The restaurant is a place that can be pleasant experience for the family or a date night. There is a bar when you first walk in that is completely separated from the rest of the dining area. The dining area has seating with chairs, booths or both. Since we were a party of 8 we decided to go with the both-chair combination. We were seated and were given our menus. The waitress took our drink orders and let us review the menu while she prepared the drinks. All of the menu items sounded good. We told our guests who were with us they needed to try the macaroni and cheese. We got it each time we had come before and they never disappointed with their mac and cheese. We got there between the hours of 3 and 6 pm. During that time you can get a 12 oz prime rib and 1 side for $15. Most of us got that order with a few wanting their ribs well done, others medium well. For the side some of us got the max and cheese or something else. I got the salad bar. That way I could eat something while the food was being prepared. The salad bar had a lot of things to choose from. You can make a garden salad, cob salad, bean salad, Ceasar salad, or a mixture of them. All the items were fresh and full of flavor. My only recommendation would be to put labels on the salad dressing spoons, so the guests would know what the selections are. If I were to give them knock the for anything, it would be for the length of time it took for our did to come to our table. When we got the food the steaks that were ordered were not cooked as to the level of all done so it was returned. The waitress was very apologetic. She went a bit a different plate for the steaks not cooked competely. That way we could continue eating what our sides. When the waitress returned the steaks were completely cooked, no red meat. The impressive part is that the steak had not lost any of its juice nor flavor. This speaks to the dedication the restaurant has to provide quality products to their patrons. As I previously stated, if were to give the a 4, it would be for the length of time it took to get our food. However, the wait was worth it. Everyone's food was cooked excellently. There was nothing that was tasted that didn't have a response of enjoyment that was visible on our faces. I didn't eat all of my steak, so I boxed it and brought it home. Several hours later, I went to eat a piece of it. I was able to cut just a easily as when it was placed before me at the restaurant. The waitress was very active. She checked on us several times to make sure we were satisfied with everything. When a drink looked close to empty she brought refills. Horrible service and food!!!! We only eat at this restaurant about once per year. By that time we think it must be better than the last time, but it never is. We wanted ribs, so I called in the order and my husband picked it up. He ran errands while I ordered, so he did not know what was included so he could check it before he left the restaurant. I ordered a rack of ribs (dry with sauce only on the side), two pints of side items and an individual side item. When he got home, I discovered one of the pints was missing and the ribs were swimming in sauce. I called and the girl I spoke with said I could come back and get my side, or they would put me on their list and next time I come in the side would be free. I told her we only come about once per year because they always mess up our food and after this would likely not be back at all. She asked what I wanted her to do and I told her they could at least refund the side. She said hold on and she would see what she could do. Someone else answered and I explained I was being helped. She said she was the manager and the person I was speaking to put me on hold and told her I wanted a manager. Did not even explain the situation to her! After I went through my story again, I was told my only two options were to come back or get a free one next time. I told themanager that was unacceptable. She said that was all she could do. I told her fine, it was not necessary for her to put me on the list because I would never be back, I would share my experiences on social media and that would be the end of it. "Wait" she says "what do you want me to do?" I hung up. I should not have to threaten to share my experiences to get my $6 back for something I did not receive. I was not even asking for anything off on the ribs that were wrong. After my phone call, we sit down to eat and we had to struggle to cut the ribs with a steak knife. I have never had ribs as tough and hard as these. My husband said they were the worst he has ever put in his mouth. We have had similar experiences every time we have gone there. The order has been worng (one time they did not even bring the meals out at the same time and each person was done eating before the next got their food and there were 4 of us-then the orders were all way overdone). Each time we have discussed our concerns with management. They have never offered anything off on our meal and our only option was for them to fix it while we waited some more. One time we went and they would not seat us in a mostly empty dining room because "they were waiting on a server to be ready to wait on another table." They expected us to stand there and wait instead of waiting at a table.
