Orient Garden — Restaurant in Cary

Last night we tried Orient Garden Cary for the first time. The food was ready quickly, the no contact service worked very well, and the window person was very friendly. The portions were very generous. The Lo Mein was the best that I have ever had, and the sweet and sour chicken was excellent. I was disappointed, however, when I tried my General Tso tofu. The tofu was cooked perfectly, but in spite of the little red peppers the sauce was bland and much too sweet. Since this is my favorite dish, I was very disappointed. Other reviews, however, talk about the spicy General Tso, so I will try it again, and we will definitely order from Orient Garden again.

Update - We ordered from Orient Garden again, and my General Tso tofu was excellent. Rather that the sweet sauce, the sauce was excellent. It had the right amount of heat and didn't have the extreme sweetness. I can't imagine going anywhere else. (Now I would give...

We were visiting from TX and felt like staying in, so I ordered and picked up takeout...but first I had to narrow it down to here looking at just 4+ star places and reading reviews for several places North of Hwy 64 and West of I-40 as we were driving from my parents and sister's. I arrived 15 min after placing our order fully expecting to wait, but it literally came out as I walked to the counter. Orange chicken was best I've ever had...the chicken fried rice was good, as was the crab rangoon. The egg drop soup was excellent. I like the online ordering system as you can tailor dishes to your liking (extra broccoli, etc.). The host smiled and thanked me as I picked up my order. This will be my go-to place for future take-out. The noodles are next on my list to try....

Deeply disappointing. Back for a visit, after having moved out of state two years ago, this was the first place we visited when we arrived in town. We used to recommend this place to all our friends, so we were deeply disappointed to see what it's been allowed to become. It's now only a shadow of what it once was. Where it used to have a great atmosphere for date night, it's now just another hole-in-the-wall Chinese takeout place. The food is still good, but zero atmosphere, not even any background music. If you want to pay for overpriced takeout, then this is the place for you. PREVIOUS 5-STAR REVIEW: Good service, great food, a quiet atmosphere, and reasonable prices. An all-around great place to enjoy a pleasant dinner with that special someone...
