Update July 2024: new management has an entirely new staff but they are trying to keep the menu the same. In my opinion that is not a good idea. You shouldn't expect new chefs to make food the same way the previous chefs made them. You can taste and see the difference. The fry is very different and the portions are smaller. The miso soup was still good ;), but the sushi rolls are very thin slices, it seems like they are trying to cut costs. I was not very filled after 2 rolls like I normally am. I have ordered the shellfish lovers many times, so I know what I'm expecting, but the pieces were very small the shellfish tasted a little different and so did the tempura. It kind of tasted like the fried stuff had been sitting out for awhile, almost stale. My husband says the chicken katsu looked fine but it tasted different too, not as good. And they seemed to cut back the cabbage portion on the side. The food was overall fine, we ate it with no real issue. My opinion is they should ask the new chefs to make their own new menu, one they are passionate about because you can taste the difference when the chefs have passion for what they are doing. They are trying to carry on the old Yuri restaurant with different people and I don't think it will work for me at least. We might come back in 6 months, but this is no longer a regular spot for us.
I forgot to take pictures. I removed the pictures I had for this review because they did not reflect the food any longer.
Previous review: May 2024 5 stars I can't count how many times we have gone here. This is our normal date spot. This restaurant is the only one I've been to where they pay such close attention to detail and consistency. Their food is perfect everytime. Usually I get sushi (the toro is 🤤) and my husband almost always gets chicken katsu. He loves it, always crispy. Their miso soup is the best miso I've ever had, it's very soothing and delicious. ( I have already taken pieces to eat in my pictures before remembering to...
Read moreThis is a really rare experience in my life. Actualy the first time in life.
The thing happens this way. If people go through the reciews here, it is true many people experience delay and the service here not really organized and. This is what we experience too. Me and my wife are the dirst two sitting at the sushi bar but the last two to receive the food. But what a big deal on this, this is nothing new at Yuri. This happens to me many times here so it is not a big deal for me because i often dine here. What surprises me is what happens next.
Because we point this fact out to the waitress but not to the chef letting her aware we hadnt received our food yet.
This agitated the chef. We actualy didnt know we did. We just found weird. The chef seems all of a sudden not able to control his temper and his temper seems to bust in any time. He started dumping ingredients very hard into the plates he was preparing and when he completed making the plate. He banged the plates on the counter top .
Still we didnt know what was going on. Then the chef suddenly shout to me and my wife yelling. You eat here you wait.
That was extremely rude. From that we realize the chef was mad and all his weird behavior was to get ours attention he about to went off and be careful not to mess with him.
This is extremely weird because we didnt specifically complain about the chef and we would have not known he was angrt until he yelled to us. The chef is a thin mid 50 korean to me he seems has an anger disorder issue. Foof got delay shd be one of the most notmal things he runs into in his daily work. Yet this seemed to trigger him and suddenly became so rude to customers.
I guess he thought people would feel intimidated with his behavior. Yet this really hurting yuri s image and what a shame in restaurant business and cannot control the temper.
H is behavior make peopel feel really unsafe to eat at this place
No one actually complained about him. Yet we did tell the waitress we had been waiting for...
Read moreFor years this restaurant used to be a pleasure to dine at, and a place we would go to celebrate events and good times, however lately they have been getting take-out orders wrong -- even orders placed after walking in.
Typically we would shrug off these misses, and enjoy what we did receive, but with a recent order we thought we'd try letting the restaurant know so that they could improve, and also provide us with the missing items.
Unfortunately management made no attempt at remediating the situation, only blamed the staff, and suggested that we next time opened and verified our order before leaving so that we wouldn't make it all the way home without any missing items. Sure, we can verify that they made the right food, however management also never offered to make our orders whole.
It's disappointing that while the food has usually been good, the service has been severely lacking, and, worst of all, no attempt has been made to remediate the situation except blame their staff and us for not checking our order. That's unacceptable.
UPDATE: Based on the restaurant's reply, it is clear that the restaurant still blames the customer for not ordering the right item. The person who took the order is either mistaken or, worse, lying. I have ordered the same menu item for the past 5 years: it has always been the Bento Box. I always ask for the Bento Box. I like the Bento Box.
We asked if we could get the missing items, however the answer was "No". We asked if we could get the missing items next time, however the answer was "No". It was very clear that the missing items were our fault, and that there would be no recourse for remediation.
We have only been offered the blame for the restaurant's mistake. This is unacceptable...
