Agave Caliente Tequila Bar — Restaurant in Cathedral City

I called ahead before visiting Agave Caliente Tequila Bar to confirm the type of music they play. I was told it would be Top 40, which sounded perfect since we were celebrating my friend’s bachelorette and she wanted to dance the night away. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The DJ was playing mostly ’70s and ’80s old-school music, and while he also had the music videos playing on the screens, it wasn’t the vibe we were expecting. The atmosphere was very low energy for a Saturday night. Most people were just sitting around, with only a small group of maybe five people dancing. My group wanted to drink and dance, so we tried to make the best of it and hit the dance floor, but quickly realized we were basically the only ones dancing. At one point, a kind guest suggested we ask the DJ to play something more current since it was a bachelorette celebration. We politely requested Beyonce (a pretty safe, danceable choice), but the DJ declined. Another guest even went up and asked for some more recent hip hop, R&B, or Latin music to liven things up, but again the DJ declined. Considering no one else was really enjoying the music he was playing, it felt strange that he wasn’t open to adjusting the vibe at all. It was disappointing, especially since Palm Springs is right around the corner with plenty of nightlife options.
