We stopped by Frontier Town to make some last-minute Christmas shopping and decided to have lunch at Hansen's Cowboy BBQ. To start, we ordered a plate with 2 meats (brisket & ribs) with a side of sausage and mac n cheese. We also ordered a chicken taco. The barrender informed us that the mac n cheese either takes a little bit longer, but we have no rush. I think it was very kind of him to let us know ahead of time. They also had a cranberry bida spritzer as a special, which i am glad I ordered. It was very refreshing and just the right amount of vodka. While we waited for the food, the kids tried lazo for the first time. The bartender noticed they didn't really know what they were doing, and he took the time to show them how it's done. The brisket was tender, not too fatty, and our table had three different BBQ sauces. My favorite was the Cherry Chipotle. My family liked the original BBQ sauce. The Jalapeño sausage had the perfect amount of spice. the mac n cheese was dusted with flaming cheetos, which gave it a different twist and a flaming cheeto lover, I was pleasantly surprised. The kids loved the ribs, they we crispy, juicy and tender. We had to other another 1/2 rack of ribs because the kids devoured it. The chicken taco was smokey and topped topped with cotija cheese and a Chipotle mayo. Everything was amazing! My kids asked to go back today. We will definitely be back soon! The service is great, food is on pint and the atmosphere is a breath of fresh of air. Unfortunately, i did not think of taking pictures, but trust me when I say you need to try ...
Read moreThis place has the best barbecue in town. And when I say, "in town," I mean in the Phoenix Metro Area. I've had a lot of barbecue all over the country from small holes in the wall to fancy sit downs and big chains, and nothing else in the valley had ever satisfied this Texas country boy's craving for barbecue quite like this. The brisket is moist and bursting with flavor. The short ribs held right up until I bit down, and then the meat came right apart. No having to rip it apart and no worrying about it falling off as soon as I tried to pick it up. The chicken held a beautiful smoky flavor, and the pulled pork was so good my dainty wife scarfed it down before I had a chance to try it.
All this in a country atmosphere. They have a little western town built out that the kids can explore when they're not doing a miniature rodeo. Live music, friendly workers, and an overall feel that you really have managed to leave the city behind. 5 stars don't feel...
Read moreWife & I went for lunch, to our surprise there was no indoor seating. We decided to tough it out under the misters and give this place a try. We both found it odd that a BBQ place did not have brisket on the menu. She tried the tri-tip, not a fan, I had some sort of burrito which was more of a Tex Mex than true BBQ. We would normally be more empathetic to a new establishment but this was disappointing on many levels.
We decided on two star as the limited help was working hard and trying to be helpful. They did give us "free" bottle water while we waited (106 degrees) The food was average at best, prices were ~ $50 lunch for two with a couple beers. Could have done without the story about not needing teeth to eat the BBQ, interesting but strange.
We wish the owners the best of luck, and hope they can figure...
