We have been to pork bellies on three different occasions. They are super close to our house so we were really excited when they opened up. Our first visit was fantastic. We went on a lunch date and got some sandwiches which were really wonderful. I dont remember the sandwiches as it was when they first opened. After that we stayed away for a bit as the pricing is a bit higher than we would pay regularly. We did eventually go back only to try breakfast this time.
They are super popular here in cedar but have very limited seating. So the wait when we went was about 30 minutes. We were seated and the waitress was great. Super friendly and welcoming. The coffee was wonderful and I'm a bit of a coffee snob so that's really important to me. The food came and the country fried steak (I get this and chicken fried steak confused but I think thats what it was) was a very tough cut with lots of gristle. I was also not a fan of the gravy that was heavily salted. The potatoes were a bit too cheesy and everything was very heavy and greasy. We tossed it up to an off day. Most people in cedar really like it so we were determined to give it one last go. We did not say anything about this experience, neither to the owner or online, as I said we chalked it up to an off day. These things happen.
We then went again months later for our third and final time. Waitress was again great. We had a couple special requests, extra cilantro, and light on the cheese for my husband and neither of those were met. The owner came around and did bring out the extra cilantro when we brought it to his attention. My husband declined new potatoes. The food was the same for us this time though. Super heavy and very greasy. We decided we wouldn't return, that it just wasnt something we cared for.
Several people since have attempted to bring up things about the store that they were not happy with, one of them I see has posted a review here as well. Occasionally those things are handled in a professional manner and the concern is addressed well. A few incidents have become a bit outrageous and the owner has lost her cool on social media with several who had a bad experiences and opinions. This was a game changer for me. I knew then that even if the food issue was fixed I would not endorse such behavior by giving them the money I work hard for.
Here recently I agreed with a member who also was not impressed by the food. The owner snidely commented on my agreance and I knew, judging by her previous responses to posts that she was just going to start arguing so I blocked her from Facebook as I have zero intentions of arguing my opinion. I hear i have since been banned from her restaurant. Smh. Silliness seeing as I've been three times since they opened and stated that I would not be returning in the prior post that she was treating her customer poorly. Even without a ban no way would I return.
All in all, the members of cedar city really like pork bellies so i would say i am one of the few that just finds the food lacking and the owner to be too unprofessional and discourteous to spend my money there.
My work had them cater for us this past Christmas . So they also do large parties. He was very friendly with the crew when he brought the items and everything was as we ordered. I still was not a fan of the food then. We got the chicken bombs and cowboy sushi with a few sides. It was a big hit for most of...
Read moreIf you are looking for a good place to get BBQ this is definitely a fantastic option here in Cedar City, UT. I have had a lot of different BBQ joints in my life, and I can only point to two that have absolutely brought me to tears with how delicious it is, and this is one of them.
My first visit to Pork Belly's was with my wife. I ended up ordering something that was recommended to me by a colleague at work. I got the Pulled Pork Melt sandwich. It was super delicious, and easily something I would get again. The meat wasn't dry, but very moist. On top of that, the sourdough bread it comes with wasn't too bad, but probably the weakest part of the sandwich (not a sour enough sourdough). However, this sandwich was amazing. My wife ended up getting a burger (more on their burgers later) which she absolutely loved! On top of these two entrees we also got an order of Cowboy Tots. those suckers are amazing! It's basically a meal all to itself. I'd go back just for these (and I have).
Now, the burger. I have a 6 year old son. He has had a few different kinds of burgers in his days from different food joints. He never finishes his burgers because they aren't good enough. Also, he typically just eats the meat our of the bread. This burger was so good he finished eating it in almost 60 seconds! And he even told me that it was the best burger he's ever had! Granted that is a 6 y/o perspective, but my wife is a lover of burgers as well and has also stated that it's possibly the best burger that she's had.
Going on to the decor of the place it is a little small, however, it is very clean! When you walk in the place looks well cared for and not cluttered at all. I know that BBQ joints tend to get a little crazy-looking at times, so if you like all the clutter on the walls then you're going to miss out while here. They do have stuff on the walls, but most other BBQ joints will outpace it in this race.
In the end, I can see this place opening up either a bigger location or a second location. The food here is incredible, and I have become an addict. If I could recommend one side it would be the Funeral Potatoes. It may seem like a total "Utah thing," but I have never had better funeral potatoes in my life, and having lived in Utah my whole life, and being LDS and having gone to a lot of church events where food (and a lot of funeral potatoes are) I can say that I've had a lot of funeral potatoes, and these are the best I've ever had! You can't go...
Read moreI kind of had a weird experience with this place. I've gone twice now. The first time, my wife and I went to Lunch. I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich and thought it was actually amazing. Really good stuff. However, I got tater tots for a side and only received about 5 or 6. It was meager ESPECIALLY so as it cost $10. Rather high for small portions, but I enjoyed it so I took it in stride.
I decided to return for breakfast, and I have to say, I found it really disappointing compared to my first visit. The Eggs Benedict were... Alright. The English Muffin they were served on was less so, and had a weird aftertaste. The Hollandaise sauce was strangely sweet, my daughter's milk was served at room temperature and they managed to make hash browns that were both bland but also bitter somehow? My wife told me that even the coffee was unpleasant. Nearly every aspect of our meal was subpar in quality. I'm not sure if this was a fluke or not as I've heard they have excellent breakfast items. The service was fine and dandy, though. No complaints there.
I'll be giving them another chance, as my first visit was very good, but the high prices, small portions, and seemingly hit or miss level of quality leaves me unable to confidently recommend this place to anyone. Maybe hit there for lunch, but breakfast can be missed.
Edit: Every subsequent visit (3 total) to this place has been actual garbage food. How they can confidently charge as much as they do, for how little portions and varying in quality it is, all while operating just a mere couple hundred feet away from the All American Diner (a superior restaurant in every way) is beyond me. The food is greasy, unpleasant, and one particular table I sat at 3 of the 5 times I've visited was wobbly despite it being months between visits. I don't give harsh reviews lightly, but this place is severely lacking in quality and care. Do yourself a favor and eat...
