Everyone on the North side of campus agrees that Rialto is the better dining location (despite South-siders' repeated assertion that their Piazza is better). The arguments are somewhat musty, as the differences are largely opinion based, and the food at both locations is nearly identical, but I will give a brief treatment here of the salient features. Piazza is larger, yet usually more crowded, with a greater feeling of congestion around the food. Rialto has all of the seating in one area, and all of the food along the North wall. Piazza has the stir fry/Eastern cuisine section lacking in Rialto. Rialto has the ever-changing grill station, serving crepes and omelets to order, for example. Rialto boats the cozy "Farmers Market Parlour", with lounge seating. Piazza has more booths. Rialto is more tastefully decorated. That said, Piazza is known for the over-the-top transformation which takes place at Halloween each year, turning the dining center into a walking nightmare for two nights each year But the food at both is objectively the best of Iowa's public schools.
