Update: I'm back a year later, for the first time. Looks like they got an upgrade on staff, so wanted to make sure to upgrade the star rating. The smiles and friendly demeanor make a huge difference and the food was great!
This place would get 4 or 5 stars, if it wasn't for the rude hostess. I've been twice this week, placed orders to go. 1st visit I had a bowl order with no silverware. When I went in to pick up, she was rude, when I asked for silverware she practically rolled her eyes. I get it, she's busy. They were all busy, but I ended up getting my silverware from the bar. We've all worked at busy restaurants in our youth...but usually with a smile towards our clients. 2nd visit I had called ahead to ask if my order was ready and before I even finished my sentence, she said, "It's not!"...I didn't even give her my name. 🙄 When I did go in to pick up my order she shouted "Name!" as I walked in the door and practically tossed my order to me. They weren't that busy, it was annoying, but of course I still smiled behind my mask, said thanks, and tipped. Got to my car and my order was wrong. Lol. I was busy that day also, it was raining, full car of kids, between Christmas, BDay and NYE planning/shopping I was exhausted. The last thing I wanted was to deal with someone like that. Torchy's is a cool place, fun atmosphere..but I'm tired of fun, trendy, Austin places with horrid employees that act entitled and annoyed. What makes these places, and all of Austin, a fun place isn't actually the place itself and how it looks, or even the food sometimes...it comes down to the PEOPLE. If I wanted to be treated like that, I'd go hit a busy bar at night ..where people are drinking and acting crazy...where we deserve attitude like that!! Lol. Not at a glorified taco stand! Yes, we should tip at restaurants...but it should still be met with a little courtesy... especially on to go orders!! I won't be going back for myself. My daughter loves it, so I'll go to another location and try my luck there. Otherwise, I'll just teach her to make fried avocado tacos and be done with it. 🤣 I'm not throwing money away at rude, entitled people. Since I don't want to reciprocate the rudeness, I'll just avoid...
Read moreTorchy's Tacos in wHITESTONE is hands-down one of the best taco spots around! The moment you walk in, you’re hit with the delicious aroma of freshly made tacos and the lively energy of the place. The menu is full of creative and bold flavors, offering something for everyone – from classic favorites to unique, mouthwatering combinations that you won’t find anywhere else.
The tacos are incredible! Each one is packed with fresh, high-quality ingredients and bursting with flavor. I especially love the "Trailer Park" taco – make it "trashy" and you won’t regret it! The queso is a must-try as well, easily the best queso in town, with just the right amount of spice and creaminess.
The service is always top-notch; the staff is friendly and quick to make you feel welcome. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing some tacos to-go, everything is prepared quickly without sacrificing quality. The casual vibe, fun decor, and Austin charm add to the overall experience, making it the perfect spot to hang out with friends, grab a quick bite, or satisfy your taco cravings.
Torchy's Tacos is more than just a restaurant – it's an Austin institution. If you’re in the city, it’s an absolute must-visit. Great food, great atmosphere, and always...
Read morefirst time trying this location, the food was good but the flavor just wasn’t there?? the size and presentation was good, but it lacked the same flavor I get from the other Torchy’s in Austin.
When I first walked in, 30 minutes after they opened, not a single peep was heard. All the employees seemed as if they were being held against their will.
Greeted the cashier with a big “good morning! How are you?” Absolutely no response back lol
The bartender with the neck tattoos and blonde hair was incredibly rude, she definitely hates her job. I went to sit at the bar, I said “hello how are you” she replied with a quick “good” and then proceeded to tell me “next time, if you’re gonna sit at the bar, you order here” in THE most condescending tone, she walked away while shaking her head and muttering something under her breathe. I felt so belittled and embarrassed. I grabbed my things from the bar and sat outside.
The only person to say “hello” or even continue a conversation was the food runner.
The location itself is a little dirty and smells.
You don’t have to be a restaurant manager to notice that this isn’t how things should be ran, please strive...
