I would highly discourage you from going to one of their estate sales. Not only are they not knowledgeable, they are extremely high priced. The most recent one they had, I was in the area and decided to stop. Now I have been to a few of their sales in Cedar Rapids and told myself I was never going to go again. I thought maybe I give them a third shot. I went on the last day which was 75% off right away. I was told immediately that I had 15 minutes left to shop as they were closing at 3. It was 2:30, um okay. Mind you the house was still pretty full, hence they are completely overpriced. I make my way downstairs and started shopping. I was making piles because I did find some things that were reasonable at the 75% off price. There were several other shoppers downstairs as well. Same lady comes down and tells us we need to stop what we’re doing because they are closed. To which I responded I’m buying stuff. I ask her, Would you at least allow me to continue to make a pile? Her answer was no. I go upstairs to pay. Explain to them again. Hey, I’m here to buy. I will buy more if you allow me a little bit more time. Their response was, well we’ve been here since Thursday. We wanna go home. We’re from Cedar Rapids. Oh, okay. Now mind you, I know friends who run estate sales. Never once have they kicked a buying customer out. They will close the door and tell them they’re not allowing any more people in, while still allowing those inside shopping to continue to shop. Most of these shoppers are out within 30 minutes. Also, my friends who hold estate sales work on them tirelessly. Sometimes it’s several weeks or even a month. They are tired yet they know the goal is to clear the house and be profitable for the client. Top Drawer is a HORRIBLE estate sale company. If I could give negative...
Read moreI haven't been to their shop, but I've been to several Estate Sales hosted by this company. The employees are mostly friendly and helpful. But the prices are outrageous. Used as-is electronics priced at the highest listed comp they can find on Ebay. I saw t-shirts priced for $12 a piece (not valuable t-shirts, just normal used t-shirts that would be $1 anywhere else). Bath Towels for $6 each that have a tag from the original purchase that says $4.99. Furniture for ungodly high prices. I guess the strategy of this company is to not sell much until the 75% off discount kicks in on the final day of the sale. Or perhaps since they run their own antique shop the strategy is to not sell certain items at all and then buy from the estate after the sale for dirt cheap bulk prices to sell in their shop. Either way, I'd recommend (if you even bother) to go to the sale on the final day... and hope that 75% off their overpriced items equates to an actual...
Read moreJust the perfect little spot! I was on a walk somewhere else and couldn't resist. I found a cute medicinal tin that I thought was neat and some great furniture. I couldn't carry these on my walk so I put it back and received no guilt or hard sale which was hugely appreciated. She just said "If it's meant to be, it will be". (I rejected her offer to put it on hold). I came back about an hour later. I would have purchased so much more had I not been on a walk. When I got back to my hotel, I found out the tin retails for $30-$60 on ebay! I bought it for $1.80 - no intention of selling but wow...
