A friend And I ate lunch at Pub217 (Saturday January 12th, 2019) for the first time. We walked in 11:30 on a snowy morning and the place was empty, except for the four guys having drinks at the bar. I wanted to have drinks too; Looked like fun but we were not there to have beers we were there to eat. And eat we did! We started with "Fried Pickle Spears" /Ranch dressing on the side -delicious. Not that fried spears are-all gourmet and stuff but these spears were really the best I have ever had. The batter, which I think they make in house had a lot of dill. I appreciated that. I ordered "The Big Burger" with American Cheese and fries, which they make themselves. I ordered med rare "a little pink". It was not served that way but was very juicy and tasty. The fries were crispy, chewy and well seasoned. My friend enjoyed the "French Dip" with home made chips and she LOVED the chips! I enjoyed quite a few myself. They are cut waffle style but very thin (see attached picture). We left Pub217 very satisfied with the flavor of both the food and ambiance. The place really warmed up by 12:30; it was full with a variety of patrons, families, young people old people laughing and having fun. Total bill with an ice tea and diet mountain due was $34.00 plus tip. We were pretty generous because the service was very good and the wait staff was nice.

Went here as a small group. We all shared the pretzel bites with beer cheese, spinach & artichoke dip and the battered & fried pickle spears with ranch dressing. Also, three of us each had different styles of burgers, of which we all enjoyed (but I forgot to take pics). One person had the tenderloin, which they said they enjoyed (also no pic). I enjoyed the pretzel bites, they were fresh and light but a little bit salty so I just brushed some salt off of them. The beer cheese was tasty but I thought the beer flavor was a bit strong, and yes I do enjoy a beer every now and again. The fried pickle spears were THE BEST I've ever had from anywhere! The batter on the pickles wasn't very thick (like most places), it was crunchy and well seasoned. I'm pretty sure they make them fresh unlike most other places. Finally, I had the 217 burger with the BBQ sauce on the side, as I am always weary of different people's versions of that sauce, and fries. My burger was perfectly cooked and topped, the veggies served on the side. I was pleasantly surprised with the BBQ sauce, it wasn't really sugary or even that sweet just perfectly sweet and peppery with a good spice blend. The fries were the thin/small kind, cooked perfectly and delicious.

Pub 217 is a nice local pub with a good selection of drinks and food. The peanut butter porter is excellent and this is one of the few places you can find it any time. The wontons are good and a goodly amount. The dill aoli burger was well cooked, though a little over for me, and had plenty of toppings. The dill pickle wrap wontons are usually very good but were overcooked the last time I got them. The homemade chips are good. The spin dip is good, a step up above normal spinach dip. The 4 best things about Pub 217 are the good amount of food you receive, the price you pay compared and the kitchen is open late compared to most places. Usually like midnight or one am and last but not least are the people that work there. Everyone is always so nice and willing to help and answer any questions. They also have TV's so you can watch all the games while chill. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good place to eat, drink and just chill out. The only thing keeping from 5 stars is the slight inconsistency of the food. It's not ever bad but not always the same.

Yes, you want to come here. You thought you wanted to go to a couple different places nearby, but if you want good food you're going to want to come here. I walked in on a slower Monday night and was told to help myself to a seat. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. I ordered their 217 pub burger which was huge! It was cooked as instructed and came with all the toppings you could want plus more. I ended up cutting the burger in half to prevent any embarrassment of trying to devour this thing in front of people. The fries were pretty good. I wish they were better seasoned for how good the burger was. The side dish is equally as important as the entree. Perhaps next time I'll try their home made potato chips. Their beer selection was really good. They have a few large coolers of canned beer and a decent selection of on tap beer as well as hard liquor. I would highly recommend coming here for a good bite to eat and a drink. The place also had plenty of TV's playing multiple channels of the current sports games if that's up your alley.

Downtown Cedar Rapids -UPDATED 6/22/24—not nearly as impressed on a Saturday night. They were severely understaffed, dirty tables the new patrons came pushed the prior customers stuff aside the waited forever to catch a servers attention. Servers were experts at not making eye contact and avoiding your table. Place was packed, too loud to hear across a table. Parking was nightmare, I parked five plus blocks away ( to be fair there were multiple events occurring downtown tonight). I was not impressed tonight….ORIGINAL POST WAS ALL 5’s: Carol found this gem, phenomenal French dip sandwiches. Homemade chips are great. Convenient location downtown, on street parking (meter maid seemed pretty busy so don’t forget to buy your parking), neat place we’ll be back. Food was 5+ stars, service just as good, atmosphere prolly pretty great at night.

Appetizers were okay. Cheese filled egg rolls. I had a the hot and creamy burger with sriracha bacon and cream cheese. It had a little too much cream cheese for my liking. Sometimes less is more. The burger quality was good. Overall taste okay. My husband had a tenderloin which was dark meat. Very porky, fries were okay, not great and the cider was excellent. The waitress was very excellent, kind, courteous and served with a smile. She tried to leave for the day without collecting her tip. We asked her to come over so that we could tip her and then we also gave a tip to the lady that checked us out.
