Such a great experience! I stopped into the Restore on 6th Avenue the other day, and having been to a few H4H Restores across the US, I was just surprised and so impressed with the layout and the organization of this particular store. I just had to stop a volunteer there and tell them that it is quite obvious how hard everyone works to keep the store organized and looking retail ready. Many resale shops, even in their best efforts, tend toward disorganized piles in unmarked aisles that a shopper must wander through and sift through to find anything they are looking for, and while this is still a commendable effort by community volunteers, this particular store showed an exemplary degree of effort from their volunteers. I felt, as a donor, that they provide the community a place to shop with organized aisles and clearly marked items neatly displayed, and this must give shoppers of all incomes a sense of dignity, not having to sift through piles of discards. Clearly, this reflects the intentions and concerted efforts of the volunteers at the Cedar Valley H4H Restore as they provide a clean, organized, and friendly environment for the Cedar Rapids community to shop and create their home. Thank you so much for all of your efforts - it has been noticed and is greatly...

My latest success with this tactic: I needed storage for my gardening tools and was thinking of metal shelves. However, since I was open to any kind of storage, I found a great little cabinet with doors that was not only cheaper than metal shelves but also tidier.
Also, when it comes to donations: If you have something a little "outside the box," call ahead and see if they'll accept it. If they do, yay; if they don't, you haven't wasted time and effort schlepping it over there only to have them...
