A heads up for anyone who wants to eat here: you can not get the all-you-can-eat sushi special on Sundays. I called ahead and learned that.
When I went last Wednesday, my group had a great time. We all ordered the all-you-can-eat lunch special. Every dish they served us was cooked well and prepared perfectly.
Any salmon dishes we got were tasty; the hibachi salmon was cooked to perfection. The hibachi vegetables were crisp and seasoned with the right amount of sauce.
My group members loved the Ichiban Roll; that it was deep fried with cooked fish helped quite a bit.
The steamed dumplings were different but a solid dish. A choice we’ll definitely make when we visit again.
Same with the teriyaki chicken; I only regret we ordered that at the end. I found it to be among their best appetizers. Char-siu style, it was slightly crispy on the surface and tender and juicy on the inside with plenty of flavor.
Our server was friendly and helpful but her accent made her hard to understand.
As for the foods that weren’t so great (for me), I was a bit disappointed in the shrimp tempura. They seemed too heavy on batter and were a bit hard to dip in the sauces. And anyone who orders the fried taro should not expect a very flavorful dish (though it was not horrible, just keep the sauce handy).
The hibachi dishes come with lots of vegetables and fried rice while the meat portions are very small. Those dishes can fill you up quickly regardless of how much you might enjoy your five a day.
As for the sushi, I would personally recommend avoiding the tamago sushi. It had an unusual sweet flavor and a consistency that did not appeal to me. If you don’t order it, you won’t miss anything special.
I was also a bit disappointed that they removed red bean ice cream from their dessert selection; I was really hoping to try that.
Still, they had green tea ice cream, a refreshing treat to finish off the meal. And fried Oreos, a new option, which proved to be tasty both in flavor and texture.
Overall, the food is very good if you like sushi and aren’t afraid to try new things. The service is pleasant and capable and they do their best to serve you quickly and without issue.
One more thing: do not waste food. If you do, you will get charged extra...
Read moreWhen this building was Wasabi, I enjoyed it a lot and would always bring my out of town friends there. So I was bummed when it closed down. But after my visit to Izumi, I am bummed no more!! The food is DEE-licious. We did the all you care to eat option and I think it's 100% worth it if you know you are hungry enough to order more than 2 rolls. There is a fee if you waste food, which is normal and standard for restaurants like this to avoid wasting high dollar food items and the skilled labor of the sushi rollers. We ate everything we ordered so not a problem! Highly recommend the Hawaiian sushi roll, the shrimp tempura, and the scallop hibachi. Everything we tried was great, those were the favorites though. The menu is very large so there's options for everyone; vegetarian, people who don't like raw fish sushi, kiddos, etc. The only downside was there was a very large, very loud and very obnoxious group there at the same time as our visit. Whistling and snapping at any member of staff who walked by, harassing the nice young lady who was their server, swearing and making vulgar conversation at a volume the entire restaurant could hear, etc. 🙄 This is in no way Izumi's fault, just annoying that people act like this out in public. Our sever was super sweet and was as attentive as she was able to be with the above mentioned group of people demanding her attention most of the night. The maître d was also very gracious and wonderful! She apologized for everything and applied a discount to our bill. She didn't have to do that, but it was super appreciated! She told us they were understaffed (like most restaurants are right now) and the employees they do have, are still in training. Which is totally understandable. So as long as you remember we're in a global crisis, facing unprecedented events every day, and that food workers are only human, there should be no issues! My boyfriend and I had a wonderful date night, with delicious food; we will be back and we'll be...
Read moreFirst thing- Arrived during the lunch hours (2 hours before dinner) on Friday 03-17. The host said that today they only have the All you can eat dinner and dinner menu. This does not make sense because the lunch menu has fewer items than dinner and should be easier to make.
Second- The Teriyaki and Hibachi items were terrible. Steak (hibachi) was very tough and we were not given an option of how we wanted the meat done. The teriyaki salmon was as dry as jerky and inedible. Could not even cut it with the fork. The scallop (hibachi) dish was full of salt and was all over the noodles and veggies. Told the waiter about the saltiness and the next Hibachi dishes were also very salty like they didn't care. Steak Curry- Cold curry sauce on top that looked like it was sitting for a few hours. Rice- All of the rice was hard and disgusting. This was served with every dish.. Seems like it was a day old.
The appetizers were edible so everyone ended up ordering those. Calamari, Shrimp tempura, crab rangoons, spring rolls, shu mai, and dumplings. Chicken Teriyaki (app)
The sushi was also good- Yellow tail, red snapper, octopus, eel, Godzilla roll, firehouse, spicy crab, and spicy tuna were items that I can remember.
Overall I would only order sushi and appetizers if I went back to the restaurant. The experience was terrible for the most part because there were people in the group that do not eat sushi and the entree items were inedible. Paying $30 for dishes that are inedible and not being acknowledged when mentioning it is a major hit to the face. Mind you the entree dishes were very small portions, maybe 3-4oz steaks and 1 scallop cut into 4 pieces. They should still be cooked well enough to eat if someone has to wait 10-15 minutes for more inedible food. You...
