Original post:
The woman I always see here was gone. There was a man running the restaurant when we arrived. I ordered a curry dish and it was nothing that even appeared on the menu. It literally looked like nothing on the menu and tasted terrible. The sauce was some kind of chunky, dry situation that was coddled-dairy-looking and inedible.
He also pulled an old samosa from the display, the oldest one I think, because it was the darkest in color, it was so dry it fell apart and was COLD. He didn’t even warm it for us.
I hope the owner is reading this because she needs to know that her establishment is being run this way. We are lifetime Indian food lovers and this was a disrespect to Indian cuisine. Please owner, pay attention to who you let run your place because you lost 2 customers last night, and I believe we could have had a different experience had someone else been working there.
We threw this food in the GARBAGE after 2 bites. I left disgusted, hungry and angry over wasting $25 of our hard earned money. That was our budget for the night. Not only did this food gross me out but it ruined my date with my husband. If I could give 0 stars I would .
Buyer beware, don’t leave without opening and inspecting all of your food items for quality.
——————————————————— UPDATE**
The owner has reached out to me regarding this issue, apologizing and encouraging me to ask for a refund next time.
I plan to eat there again, while you (owner) are present, to taste your food at its best quality and give a fair review based on that. I understand things happen, and I want to support your small business (and all of the small businesses at Newbo.
If you are willing to offer me the same samosa, and curry I ordered previously, I would love a second chance to enjoy this meal, and edit this review to give you 5 stars for good food.
Let me know if this is suitable for you, and I’ll come out and give it another try! I wish you the best, and I hope that no other customers have a negative experience...
Read moreIt's painful to write this review. I love supporting NewBo businesses, but Saatvok Swaad left much to be desired. While it smelled great, the food was bland and mislabeled. The Naan wasn't naan- more like a thick, greasy roti. It took nearly 45 minutes for our order to be prepared- I was expecting the quick service I'm accustomed to from NewBo shops. This gave us only 10 mins to eat before rushing to our event.
We ordered 4 entrees and 3 sides for 5 people and were only given plates and spoons for 2 people. The cost was over $90- way more expensive than high quality, flavorful options in the area. To make matters worse, my 3 y/o nephew had an allergic reaction to what we suspect to be nuts, despite the shop attendant telling us there were no nuts. Little guy also has a dairy allergy, and the order was supposed to vegan, so I don't trust this place to be able to accommodate vegan or allergies. It was the first time me or my dad (who has traveled to India) has ever tasted "bad" Indian food. I could have prepared something better at home. A total...
Read moreForced to go out of my comfort zone after my favorite newbo place closed. I’m a creature of habit and a picky eater so I’ve never had Indian food before but the menu clearly labeled gluten free and vegan options and that caught my attention. Ordered a few things so I could try some (figuring if I ordered just one thing I may not like it) and was pleasantly surprised that I liked all four items I selected very much! Great flavors. I’m happy to have had this new experience and definitely...
