Surprised my husband with reservations to their brunch today for Father’s Day and we had such a poor experience. We were seated quickly, but waited about 15 minutes for anyone to greet our table. This was surprising as neither the outside or the inside was busy. Our waitress finally arrived and apologized for the wait (kudos to our waitress because none of our poor experience was necessarily her fault). We put both our drink and food orders in at that point. Drinks arrived within a normal time, but 20 minutes, then 30… then almost an hour passed and still no food - for reference, we ordered French toast & one of the biscuit style plates. The waitress came over a couple of times and apologized for the wait. She stated that the kitchen was messing up orders and getting behind. At one point she told us that the restaurant was no longer seating new customers (despite not being the least bit busy) because the wait times on the kitchen were 90+ minutes. Apparently, from what we were told, this was the restaurants first time taking on a weekend brunch and they were in no way prepared (clearly). We were offered a free drink (again, our waitress did her best considering the situation), but we still paid $60 for 2 entrees and 2 cocktails. The food was just okay, definitely not worth the price tag or the horrendous wait times. The cinnamon french toast on special was described as "thick cut challah slices”, but reminded me of regular thin white bread (please see picture). I’ve had a similar entree at another local restaurant that actually uses challah bread and there is a huge difference. I sadly cannot recommend this restaurant. My husband and I love square roots (their sister restaurant), but after today, I’m not sure we will be returning to either establishment any time soon. Next time, prepare your staff for success and appreciate your...
Read moreThe ambiance was spacious and modern but not extremely dissimilar than nearby Square Roots or Tavern on Main. Our server was very nice. Was here for a business lunch and was not able to partake in any alcoholic beverages.
Now the food. The menu theme is humorous but the food was mediocre overall and not a great value. The Cajun shrimp appetizer was cooked well, well seasoned and had a nice sauce. Maybe I am cheap but 17 dollars for 4 large shrimp, isn’t my idea of value. We also ordered the “Best Cluckin Chicken Sandwich” and “Detroit Style” supreme pizza. The sandwich was FAR from it. You will get a juicier more flavorful sandwich at Popeye. As far as sit down restaurants nearby, Off Square has a superior chicken sandwich. The fries were the standard battered fries being served at just about any Greek restaurant these days. Tasty, but just like anywhere else.
Lastly, the “Detroit style pizza” made me wonder if they had ever actually had Detroit style pizza. The only element similar to Detroit style was the sauce on the top. Detriot style pizza is a pan variation, thick and airy crust, and cheese caramelized to the edge. This pizza was a rectangle version of hand tossed and while they tout the “char” on the bottom, char does not equal burnt. For 18 dollars you will get a better pizza just about anywhere in Northwest Indiana. I cannot stress how disappointing this pizza was.
I’ll probably give it another chance but overall it is the least memorable and lowest value of any restaurant...
Read moreWow! A beautiful setting with several seating options to choose from. A nice outdoor patio with umbrellas to block the setting sun, a large bar area on the main level, a comfortable main dining area, and a super cozy and swank upper lounge area. If your into sharing food with friends and exploring several menu options, this is the place for you. We asked to stage our food and started with a Woodford Manhattan, steak nachos, Margherita shrimp, and a classic smash burger. Loved the Woodford Manhattan! The steak nachos are absolutely delicious and the meat is well seasoned and tender. The shrimp breading was light and delicious and cooked perfectly. The smash burger was good, but I have a favorite version from another restaurant, so I judge every burger against it. The fries though! Wow! Crispy on the outside and meaty on the inside. We also added the Tuscan Turkey Sandwich which is a must order if you love focaccia bread, bacon, melted cheese, and tender Turkey. Don’t pass on this sandwich, it’s a winner. We thought the bill was super affordable for all that we had to eat and drink. Clean bathrooms and our waitstaff was courteous, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu. Next time we are adding the Short Rib Grilled Cheese. We saw so many of the sandwiches pass by us, and if we had more stomach room, we would have added it immediately. Going back for sure, as it was worth the...
