My little family consisting of my girlfriend, my pup, and myself gave this Tomato Bar a shot tonight and since we were seated, I’m sure glad we did. We were seated really fast with no wait. That was awesome already. We were seated at a booth and from there my pup was treated with royalty! She was given a treat and her own cup of water. She is a service dog, but to have her treated so highly was a huge green flag right off the bat.
I ordered a Diet Coke and we shared the Silvergate Chardonnay, which was a White Wine. The Diet was good and included refills. The Wine had a citrus feel to it and was a light, casual sip.
We ordered the Cheese Bread for an Appetizer. For our main meal, we shared a 10” Soulchaser Pizza and a Dirty Bird Oven-Baked Sandwich.
The Cheese Bread came out within minutes and was fresh, but also slightly crispy. I’d say it was a healthy medium for all the bread lovers out there. The sauce it came with amplified it for even more flavor. It’s not the biggest portion size, so if you have more than two people I recommend getting another.
The Soulchaser was great. It was stacked with toppings. If you’re not big on just having one or two toppings, then you should probably get this Pizza. I’m not huge on crust, but at Tomato Bar, they know their crust. The Dirty Bird Sandwich was Chicken, Cheddar, Provolone, Mushrooms, Banana Peppers, Onion, Green Peppers, Herb Mayo, Lettuce, and Tomato all packed nicely on a Pita! They surely don’t cheap out on giving you a variety of different toppings on their meals. This Sandwich, though, was soothing to the bite. It was such a flavorful Sandwich and with it wrapped in the Pita is genius.
Our waitress was great! She was so kind to our dog and thrived to get us anything we needed. She had a positive, friendly attitude and that’s not easy to come by at restaurants.
Overall, this is probably my favorite Tomato Bar! They’re on top of the quality and service. I had a fine dining experience at a moderate price. I’m sure I’ll come...
Read moreI like this place a lot, and I think the food always tastes good, but there’s alwsys something ‘off’, here are a few things from my last visit:
I think the cheese bread is too expensive for how much you get. That’s not helped by it being served in a plain metal tray about four times bigger than it is, with a plastic cup full of marinara. It actually stands out with how much it seems like an afterthought.
I got the “Philly” Calzone. It was huge, but unfortunately about 50% bread, 40% cheese, and 10% meat. If you picked up an actual cheesesteak without being careful more steak would fall out of it than was in the entire calzone. I’d guess it had about as much meat as one-quarter of your average hotdog. The parts that weren’t all bread and cheese were very good though.
When there’s an order ready someone in the kitchen area, (which is entirely open to the restaurant itself- and I do like that), someone shouts that there’s an order up. I have no idea if this bothers anyone else but me or maybe people suddenly shouting in public spaces makes me jumpy. I’ve been to restaurants where they do that and it hasn’t bothered me before, it’s not even the volume as much as the tone.
The music is aggressively 2000s, some 90s and some 2010s, except it’s always very on-the-nose stuff that got so much radio play that I am personally still tired of hearing it to this day.
Finally, their hvac system is dripping a lot of water into the restaurant area. Enough that they had to shut about half of it down, and I’m still surprised that they left as much open as they did. I feel like this is probably something that will be resolved quickly, but legionella vibes don’t make for a good...
Read moreAfter dining here in the past and loving the food, we were so disappointed to drive an hour out of our way to dine on the patio with our dog only to be turned away. The website states that this location has a dog friendly patio during the warm season (it is August.) It rained around 1pm and it was now 5pm. We had a super long day on the road and had been looking forward to finally sitting down, relaxing and enjoying some food with our pup and even though we were completely worn out we decided if we were already driving through Indiana we would take the extra two hours round trip to visit this restaurant. I walked in and asked for a table outside because we had our dog and the red headed woman at the host stand said she did not know if the patio was open because it had rained that morning. (This same woman has served us in the past and entirely forgot about us for over half an hour, which I never would have mentioned or cared about if this wasn’t now the second poor interaction I’d had with her) I told her we had driven an hour to eat there and she just responded “yeah.” Clearly that was as far as it was going to go, and I’m not going to demand they serve the patio if they had chosen not to so I just asked to use the garbage can to throw away a wrapper I had, met my husband and pup back on the...
