Included pic NOT from Bills. Pic from American Classic.
I used to love Bill’s donuts. Used to be the place I’d brag about in my travels. Used to be the place I’d drive across town for some good donuts. NOT anymore.
It pains me because I love donuts and Bill’s and I go back a long way. But it’s to the point now I just get grumpy at the thought of the place, so I won’t go back.
Reasons why? No chocolate frosted yeast donuts, essentially no apple fritters, and lately the donuts I’ve been getting have been a bit less than fresh.
This is really infuriating. No chocolate frosted yeast? It’s one of the most popular and iconic donuts in the world, some reviews even place it as top most requested donut. You tell me: how would you rate a burger joint that didn’t sell cheese burgers? Imagine that conversation:
“Yes I’d like a cheese burger.” “I’m sorry we don’t have those.” “You don’t have cheese burgers?” “No.” …looking around at menu… “You do have burgers.” “Oh yes we have burgers.” “You have cheese.” “Of course.” “You do have cheese on food items…” “Yes, consider our cheese sausage muffins.” “Can’t you put the same cheese on a burger and give me that?” “Oh no, we don’t do that.” “Why not??” “We don’t have cheese burgers.” …eyes rolling, face palming, sighing…
Anyone ever heard of FIVE EASY PIECES?
Yes, Bills has chocolate. They make nice chocolate cake donuts. With chocolate icing. They make those long finger yeast donuts with chocolate icing, but it’s not the same as a glazed yeast- denser and on the dry side in comparison. So, they do make glazed donuts and have chocolate icing. But they don’t put the two together. 🤷🏼♂️ Go figure. Not like they lack shelf space. Even employees and patrons in line there I’ve asked don’t understand why they don’t.
As far as their apple fritters go, forgetaboudit. Only made during a changing one hour interval from day to day and they sell out within a few hours. So unless you know when they’re made, you’ll never get them. Plus, they’re not even that good anymore. Used to be. My last batch was dry, not much apple… 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ They don’t even look like apple fritters. More like an over baked blob that resembles a thick burger. Reference my attached pic to see what fritters should look like. Did I get such a thing on my last visit? Nope.
As for the quality, has anyone else noticed a decline? The freshness just hasn’t been what it used to be. How long do these things sit on the shelf anyway? And as for service quality, what’s up with that occasional otherworldly-rude employee? Such truly stands out against the otherwise exceptionally pleasant staff.
They do make some good donuts. Their sour cream are excellent, basically a round cruller. Their glazed are nice. I’m not a big cake donut fan, but theirs are actually moist, and the chocolate cake icing are truly nice. But these things don’t make Bills a five star considering their basic deficiencies.
I’m being generous granting Bills 3 stars, and this is simply because in general they do make good donuts, at least on par with any other donut place. As long as they won’t sell two of the most iconic donuts (a few hours of fritters a day doesn’t really count) and make us suffer that rude odd-ball behind the counter, they’ll never get more stars from me.
In short, if you’re looking for a five star donut place, you won’t find it here. DON’T bother driving across town. You will likely find less than what you could grab locally. Think I’ll settle for Krogers…or Glazed Donut Eatery in Xenia or American Classic with their much better...
Read moreThe owner of bills donuts now was my families former magistrate. We were the last case on his docket before he retired and took over ownership of bills donuts. I used to go to bills all the time now I can’t in my heart feel the same about the place.
I was in an abusive marriage with a man that hurt me while pregnant and my other minor children, He used to beat me up against the wall when I was pregnant and pull at my daughter by her limbs, My ex-husband knew my son was aggressive in the home and that that is why he was removed from the home and went to live with my grandma. Instead of my ex being respectful and honest in a court of law, He lied horribly on the stand, making me feel raped all over again. It was because of his testimony, according to the decision from magistrate Lachmann That he deemed my husband more credible than I. If only he knew the decision he made, and how wrong it was. All the harm his decision caused, This magistrates decision tore apart a good family, A family that was innocent that had asked the county for help for years for my son. I filed As plaintiff in a divorce in domestic To try to escape my ex-husband’s abuse. After my children were put into the system, my oldest child was beaten and stabbed in a Group Home 13x. She suffers extreme PTSD now, Severe anxiety and depression, And she’s autistic with ADHD. She has constant night terrors, and all I can do is hold her and try to reassure her. It breaks my heart for her. I got custody back of her last year, And I’m fighting for my younger three now. Thankfully, for me, I have a lot of tangible evidence to support what I am saying, Not just my words. I have held my pain in for three years, And I’ve kept my mouth shut, And I’ve seen my family torn apart. It breaks my heart that this is how my family was treated. Now I have hired an attorney which is investigating this whole mess on my ex-husband and the influence he had on the court In Juvenile.
For anyone involved in domestic violence, I know where you are. It’s a very rough spot to be. You are in my prayers and know you are never alone.. I believe in God and his grace he knows what happened in my home. I pray for my twin boys that were put up permanent custody when I was backed into a corner, trying to save my older child who had no other family Who was being Abused in the system even being stabbed in a Group Home suffering through 13 attacks in one placement an eight-year-old little girl. I was never informed of time restraints to rescind My original plea on my boys either. I am absolutely brokenhearted. Sometimes giving a family a chance with the proper supports in place, Prevents a huge mistake and tearing a good family apart. I just wish this would’ve been the case for my family. Instead, we suffered much trauma, And because he now owns bills donuts, I will never step foot there again. I pray that one day magistrate lachmann sees how wrong his decision was, Because he tore a good family apart based on a liar Who actually was the abuser. I wish him and his establishment the best, but I will never support his business because of how he tore my family apart, he may get it right a lot with the families He saw in his courtroom, But this was not the case for my family. It breaks my heart daily. Again, I wish him nothing but the best, but I cannot support bills donuts any further. Below is the last time I saw my children and the last time my family was together. Last pic and all. It’s been 3 years....
