Chiapas is a nice, small restaurant to go to if you are feeling Mexican food. I would say better than your typical Rancho or Chuys, my opinion of course.
When I went there, I had the fajitas for two which I shared with my brother. Piping hot dish with shrimp, steak, and chicken. I got the basic works with it, beans, rice, pico, avocado and of course the hand made corn tortillas are always a plus. The only complaint I have is the dish itself tasted a little bland which surprised me. The shrimp was aight at best. Luckily, the other, fresher ingredients made up for it and I still enjoyed my meal.
My SO went with her own dish of a deluxe chimichanga which was beef and chicken I believe? What I do know is she cleaned the plate so that's always a good sign. She was served four total chimichangas which were filled thoroughly and doused with plenty of sauces.
My mother had steak and onions of some sort. They catered to her every demand. She can be a bit much to be honest lol. She still enjoyed it though so that's a good sign and the server did a great job to stay on her good side.
Step father had a seafood soup. He also cleaned the bowl well and said it was pretty good.
Atmosphere was great! Busy day for the staff as the patio was filled but still pleasant enough to eat outside. The occasional bikes along the road drowned out the convo but nothing too bad really. Some music playing while you enjoy your meal and company. No TVs so this truly is a more intimate experience where conversation should be had.
Overall, definitely a good spot for a quick bite to eat if you're feeling Mexican for lunch or dinner. The tacos were a big hit for me from when I visited previously. I think I'll stick with that next time. Didn't get them this time due to my brother wanting to split the fajitas but now I...
Read moreI've gotten to visit once and I'm totally down for a return trip! I took my dad here to celebrate Father's and we had a feast! Nachos, a tamale, a quesadilla and rice with beans.
I'd seen the nachos mentioned in reviews and pictures here on yelp, but didn't see them on the menu. Apparently it's not listed for some reason. But when I asked, the waitress knew exactly what I was talking about - tortilla chips absolutely COVERED in meat (steak, chicken, chorizo, carnitas and shrimp) and some queso. Woah! I eat loaded nachos every chance I get everywhere I go and I have NEVER seen this much meat piled on chips at any other restaurant. My only "complaint"? It doesn't come with sour cream and guacamole, which is totally a must in my book. Also, for me personally, the chorizo and carnitas were my favorites of the meats. So on my next visit, I'd probably ask to build my own - leave the other meats off and add that sour cream and guac!
The tamale with filled with pulled chicken and topped with a mole sauce. I've only had mole one other time in my life, so I can't say I'm sure what the standard is. But I just don't thinks it's for me.
But the Hawaiian Quesadilla was great!! I just love the combo of pineapple and chorizo!!
All of this was more than enough food, so we went home with a box of leftovers for hubby - he loved it all!!
This place is small and could fill up quick (especially the parking lot!), but it didn't feel overly cramped. We enjoyed sitting in the back corner near the bathrooms so our toddler wouldn't disturb other guests.
Our server was super sweet and everything came out fast.
Pro tip - don't wait for the bill, pay at the counter. All of this food with a tip was a...
Read moreUPDATE... Two years later... cant believe the difference. My mom wanted tacos and we were close and Ithought of here because the food had been so good before. What a disappointment. THANKFULLY, we only shared the three steak tacos w/Mexican Rice & refried beans. The salsa & chips served while we were waiting was abysmal... chips were stale & cold. The "salsa" was nothing more than tomato juice with a FEW pieces of chopped onion and fresh cilantro. The tacos, WERE HOT, can't complain about that. HOWEVER, there was NO seasoning or flavor, no tomatoes. Some guacamole, wasn't bad, no lettuce. The soft corn tortillas were about 3.5" diameter, barely able to hold a couple of bites. SERVICE: He took our order, brought the chips & salsa, then the food and those were the only times we saw him. I had to go to the counter & ask for the check. They were NOT busy, poor service, only thing good was the tacos were hot. Don't bother, spend your $$ elsewhere, Taco Bell tastes better. Maybe it was just a bad day, i hope so, but I have no recommedations on food here. Ate there for first time today. We had a party of 16 and they were VERY nice & accommodating on setting up the seating in such a small area. Food was very good, too. Considering we "slammed" their cook with 16 orders I can't fault them for the food taking a little longer than I thought it "should" and it WAS all hot and good, so worth it. I will definitely go back! Go eat, enjoy the food. Support a small business who will go.out of their...
