Soooo, I went to the new El Asedaro at the Cross Point shopping plaza, near Doubledays. There was a previous Mexican restaurant there, but now it has been replaced. Very striking artwork on the walls and an extensive menu, along w/ a host of fun cocktails to choose from.
We started out w/ the tableside guacamole. They have regular guac that they can bring from the back, but trust me, fresh is best. Costs a little more than the other, but it was well worth it and was enjoyed by everyone who commented on the freshness of the ingredients and not being overly salted.
Companion one ordered a horchata, which is a rice milk, along w/ chicken tamales with a side of refried beans and rice. It was felt that the horchata was flavorful, with the spices being well balanced. Companion one was happy to see tamales on the menu as you normally don’t. They were enjoyed especially since they were served out of the husk.
Companion two ordered the chimichanga w/ chicken. It was felt that the chimichanga was very good, fried well while not being soggy or too crispy. There was a right amount of cheese and sauce. The refried beans were good, with a nice spicy kick.
Companion three and five ordered the chicken-chorizo mix w/ pineapples and enjoyed it. Both felt the flavor was good and well-balanced. Companion five normally orders this item when dining out and felt it was on par with another favorite place of theirs.
Companion four ordered the crazy burrito and enjoyed it as well. Normally doesn’t order chicken, but was pleased with it.
Companion six ordered the veggie burrito. It was also enjoyed. Nice amount of veggies that were crisp and fresh, but felt it could have benefitted from a little bit of spice.
Admittedly, Mexican food is not high on my list of cuisines, and I am not opposed to eating it. I just can never really find that go-to meal. Eating at El Asedaro made it even harder b/c there were so many items to choose from. I ended up w/ the ground beef chimichanga. It was fine but I am still on the hunt for that signature item. When it comes to Mexican food, I can be content w/ some fresh guacamole and an appetizer.
All in all, everyone enjoyed the place and would come back. I will definitely go back, especially for the cocktails. On a previous visit, I ordered the sunset margarita, which was a peach margarita that had a bottle of Seagram’s peach bellini turn upside down in it, garnished with candy. Could have been a little more frozen, but it was good. So if you’re looking for a step up from the El Toro’s and El Rancho Grande’s of the world, give it a try. Perhaps you might catch a show in...
Read moreMy husband and I have dined at rancheros on two occasions. The reason we have only gone two times is not because we didn't particularly care for it or it was just okay because that's not the case we visit many different types of restaurants. This restaurant is the best Mexican restaurant that we've ever been to. It is inviting from the outside and when you walk in it's very warm very beautifully decorated Furniture the booths are very colorful and warm. The bar has lights that change colors so the glasses will show blue green red whatever and they just continue to change which is very interesting to just watch almost hypnotizing. There are screen televisions up above some of the booths and above the bar. We were there one weekend night and one weekday night and both nights they were packed. Despite the fact that they were full up there was not annoys level that was above normal speaking tones. That is not to say that people weren't speaking loudly but the way that they have the restaurant arranged and the way the furniture is the sound is kept to a minimum so that you can carry on a normal conversation in a normal tone of voice. When you are seated by the greeter who is very warm friendly and asks you how you are this evening your server is practically right behind the or hostess. we were given a tortilla shell of refried beans that were magnificent. my ex-mother-in-law made the best refried beans in the world or so I thought until I tasted these. They're also chips and salsa. I ordered something on the menu called enchilada suprema's. There are three enchiladas and you have your choice of steak chicken or shrimp and because you have the three option I ordered one of each and they were fabulous charred beautifully and extremely flavorful. you are asked if you would like more chips and salsa and if you do want another tortilla shell with refried beans in it it's an additional $2.50. my husband is a fan of enchiladas rancheras came with salsa refried beans lettuce and chopped tomatoes which my husband just loved. in reference to price I would say that there is a price for everyone it is very affordable are tab today was $23 and that was for the additional refried beans and both of our drinks and our meal we left completely full very happy and anxious to get back. our server whose name that I I'm afraid I do not know was very very conscientious about his job and checked with us several times to see if there's anything else that we wanted and asked us how we were doing. obviously from this review I'm sure that you would see that we very happily recommended to anyone that likes...
Read moreMy husband and I went on Valentine's Day with our 2 children. We were seated immediately at 7 pm! That was very convenient.
Once seated, we noticed the Mexican day of the dead decor all around. It was so colorful! Lots of skulls, hearts, and skeletons!
The menu is extensive! They have all of the traditional dishes along with the new trendy food items. Birria tacos, birria pizza, birria quesadillas, and street tacos. One of the biggest shocks to me was the amount of fajitas on the menu. If you like fajitas you so l will really have to make a tough decision.
The drink menu was expansive, detailed, colorful, and definitely creative! I had the Azul margarita. It was delicious and VERY strong.
Menu items ordered were as follows:
Appetizer- empanadas (beef) There were only 3, and they were very small, but they were FANTASTIC. The sauce that accompanied them were even better!
Dinner: Me- birria quesadillas 10/10!!!! Portion size was great. Flavor was spot on! Hubby- Roman tacos. 1 beef. 2 chicken. 7/10. He needed hot sauce. They only had salsa. The same salsa that came out with the chips. Not hot sauce. It is odd for a Mexican restaurant to not have picante sauce. Daughter 1- grilled cheese 9/10. She ordered the fruit as a side, and her fruit never got washed. We wiped them off at our table and noticed the napkin turning black, so we ordered another water to actually clean them.
Daughter 2- cheese pizza 9/10. She loved it. She wished it were more cheesy.
Entertainment- Wow! The lights dimmed down, the Latin party music began, and two 8ft robots and a Minnie mouse walked out, completely lit up and ready to dance! They partied around the whole restaurant, put on a great show, and really entertained the whole family! A must-see experience.
Our waitress - very, very, underwhelming. She never said happy Valentine's Day. She never asked if we had been there before or if we were first timers (which we were), she never said thank you for coming in, and she barely smiled. I really hope to get a friendly waitress next time.
Overall- this place is GREAT! My husband and I will be back for an adults only trip, and I will be back for a...
