The Super Cheese, this one pizza is all you ever need to order. It's got everything on it, why not call it the super supreme? Why call it the Super Cheese, something that sounds more indicative of many cheeses on one pizza? Because at Marion's they do what they want and make what they please. Someone told Marion way back that you couldn't make a pizza with a thin cardboard crust and square slices taste good. Marion told them, "Wanna bet, fool!" And Marion won the bet. Sure it's not covered in the finest quality organically grown veggies, the meat probably isn't Boar's Head brand quality either. But it's good and goes better with beer than anything at Papa John's. Marion's is what it is, pretty good and the Super Cheese is great.
I live in another state, surrounded by food snobbery and pizza places that try way harder to be more than what they are. This results in sometimes some really tasty unique treats. Other times it results in a wheat dough with ostrich meat, artichoke, avocado, goat cheese, cilantro, mandarin orange, walnut and pesto/ marinara atrocity daring to call itself a pizza. And when all you want is an iced tea to wash the funk down these places only have Iced Hibiscus Thyme Honey tea. Which basically tastes like what I imagine drinking a bottle of Patchouli would be.
Point of all this is, there are lots of many different Pizza places out there. Some for hipsters, some for kids, some catering for actual Italians, and then there's the ones locally owned and supported by/ for everyday people. Marion's has a style, atmosphere, bang for buck simplicity and a good product all around (pizza is just as good cold as hot, their pizza reheats just as well too) that's hard to find anywhere else. I'd give up all the Papa John's, Dominos, California Pizza Kitchens, Unos, Carrabbas Pizza, etc etc for more Marion's Piazzas; simple pizza that goes...
Read moreThe last time I dined at Marion's Piazza in Centerville was in 1975. Graduated from CHS that year. Visited the restaurant again recently. My dad, his friend from their HS, my brother & I ordered 2 large pizzas and salads. Marion's was having their annual 60% off extravaganza or whatever they call that huge sale so of course, the place was packed. Think we only had to wait about an hour to get our food. We didn't care as the bar was open, and everyone was getting plenty of beverages! Staff was friendly & efficient so service was superb. Food was very good just as I remember it 50 years ago. Restaurant ambiance is very casual and saw plenty of kids & adults wearing Centerville Elks t-shirts with gym-type shorts & flop flops. Some things don't change very much in 50 years but we didn't have cell phones back then. Made me wish I still had my 1973...
Read moreHooray for Marion's Pizza! This place is sentimental to me because it is somewhere I used to frequent when I was in high school. Not much has changed as far as decor and food quality goes, and honestly, that is part of what I like about it. No frills here, just yummy pizza and salads. I believe they offer sandwiches as well, but stop it, you're here for the pizza. In fact, you're here for the bomb sausage pizza. The sausage is tiny and shredded, covering the whole pie which is then cut into tiny squares that causes you to eat entirely too many since they are bite sized. But so worth it. They sell canned soda and some beer as well as bagged chips. You purchase the drinks at a separate counter where you can also get cups or pitchers of fountain soda as well. Marion's now accepts credit cards (it used to be cash only back...
