Sugar Me Desserterie — Restaurant in Chagrin Falls

While the bakery offers some delicious items, I recently had a bad experience with a custom order which is the reason behind my 1 star review. I placed an order a month ago for desserts for a few holiday gatherings we were attending. I paid for the order that day and left without any confirmation of the order that I requested, not knowing I should’ve insisted on having a copy of the order the bakery employee had written (shame on me). I picked up my order the 24th, after being told the bakery was closed the 26th. When I arrived, a sign at the door had open hours listed for the 26th, the day I actually needed the order. Ok, not a big deal, picked up my order and left. When I got home, we discovered the order was not correct and I was missing part of the order. I called and explained what we received was not what we ordered. Although the employee I spoke with apologized for the mistake, she felt the need to repeatedly tell me “we don’t make mistakes like this” and “I’m not sure where the miscommunication happened”, leaving me to feel like I was somehow at fault for their mistake? I did receive a refund. I was also told to return the order. So not only do we not have anything to bring to the holiday events, but I was further inconvenienced by having to make a special trip back to the bakery to return an order they will have to pitch. The whole debacle was extremely disappointing. I had planned to place orders for an upcoming birthday and graduation, but now I will not spend another dime at Sugar Me. I don’t typically write reviews but I was disappointed with my experience at Sugar Me Desserterie. As far as a local bakery goes, they are cute and tasty. But if you are looking for specialty cakes from someone I would look elsewhere. My mom ordered a birthday cake and had confirmed the order with the bakery twice. On the day of the occasion, the cake was the complete wrong flavor. My mom ordered a coconut cake with chocolate ganache filling and received an almond cake with blackberry filling. It was tasty, but if you’re looking for your specific order was disappointing.

Additionally, my fiancé and I had a consultation scheduled for wedding cake tastings. On the morning of our consultation, we were told that the consultation had to be rescheduled because the baker working with us got the flu the night before. We understood this and definitely preferred that it would be rescheduled. They still offered to give us our cupcakes for the tasting as well. My frustration came when we went to pick up the cupcakes. When I asked one of the bakers about rescheduling our consultation, I was told to wait to reschedule. We live out of town and came specifically for this consultation so it was frustrating for it to not only be canceled, but to also not have it rescheduled. I was told I would be contacted on Monday (it was Saturday) to reschedule. Monday came and went and no one contacted me. I reached out that Wednesday and still have not had a response almost a week since then.

I was so disappointed in the cake we got from sugar me desserterie for an 18th birthday celebration. I wanted something very special and fancy for our 18 year old Rubik’s cube enthusiast and couldn’t believe the cake I picked up came from a professional bakery. Actually, I was embarrassed to serve it.

When I went back to look at the pictures from the website, I’m still puzzled (and disappointed) at how all of these beautiful cakes are posted and we got something that looked like an amateur created.

I realize the request of a Rubik’s cube cake presents difficulty, but if they couldn’t do it, they shouldn’t have taken the order so I could find another bakery who could give us the special cake we wanted.

The situation was made even worse when we cut into the cake and it wasn’t even the right flavors! We ordered chocolate cake with raspberry filling and got vanilla on vanilla.
