We are on day 5 of an 8 day camping trip through CO& NM and we’re passing through Chama and the food options were very few. Took a chance on this place and it absolutely did not disappoint. Me, my husband, my teen, and my 3 young kids including a 2 yr old had a great filling meal. My smothered relleno was perfect, green chile was spicy and delicious. My son said his enchiladas were great and my husband loved his red chile and sopapillas. We all greatly enjoyed the sopapillas. Everything is homemade and fresh.
The owner is retired law enforcement and he made a point to say hello. He was exceptionally kind to my small children which is usually not the case especially right before closing.
Non food: very friendly attentive service and the place is really nice inside, CLEAN and bright. They don’t have a huge sign on the building but definitely keep an eye out, you won’t be sorry you did. We will always try to go out of our way to support family run as opposed to chain or commercially run options, and will definitely some back next time we are in...
Read moreThe food was decent but not the best. The red chili had good flavor, but the meat in it looked burnt—almost black. I ordered the combo plate, but the enchiladas were disappointing, and the cheese on the taco was burnt. However, I had no complaints about the handheld breakfast burrito.
The service left much to be desired. The waitress seemed forgetful, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. She was more focused on whatever was going on in the kitchen than on doing her job. At one point, she was gossiping about the cook, complaining that he was acting however he pleased. My order took a long time to arrive, and when I went to pay, another worker randomly told me, “Sorry, it’s the cook’s first time here—he’s only been here for two weeks, and he’s already acting however he wants.” I hadn’t asked, but thanks for the unsolicited explanation? I came to enjoy a meal, not to hear about...
Read moreMet some friends for lunch to try Mom and Dad's Restaurant. Casual, welcoming environment and sweet, friendly staff. Meal took 45 minutes to make and was brought out singularly. Definitely no frills. Cheeseburger is just meat, cheese, bun. One cheeseburger (mine) was full of flavor, another was dry. Onion rings, however, are the best in town! Chicken Quesadilla, nice flavor, again, do not expect anything but the quesadilla, however, you can ask for sour cream and salsa. Breakfast burrito with bacon will need salsa, red or green, something to add some flavor. Hopefully they are just getting their legs under them and working out kinks. Happy to have an option for dining in Chama because it's pretty minimal. Mom and Dad's has a special place in their hearts for law enforcement! If you're a part or have been in law enforcement, you should pop by, they have a reserved table and a...
